Oh no ๐Ÿ˜ญ One of the last members of the USS Enterprise has left. RIP Walter Marvin Koenig (1936-2026) Star Trek, Babylon 5, Moontrap, The Starlost, The Questor Tapes, Futurama... What a career in sci-fi. I will miss Pavel Chekov. Again ๐Ÿ˜ž

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

To most he will always be Chekov... but to fans of Babylon 5, he was simply the Best. One more has gone beyond the rim. Thanks for the memories, Walter.

worth flagging since it circulates every time he's remembered: the story that Pravda complained about no Russians on the bridge and that's why Chekov got added is actually unverified. Snopes couldn't find anyone who'd actually seen that editorial โ€” it traces back only to Roddenberry's own account.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

"Koenig lost out on a chance to appear in Babylon 5 when he suffered a heart attack and had a quadruple bypass in 1993, but J. Michael Straczynski wrote the part of Bester for him when he was healthy enough to act again. Unlike Chekov, this character was multidimensional, key to several storylines."

"I was always pleased that we were dealing with issues of mankind and humanity and how we can achieve a better moral society and be inclusive of all races, creeds, sexes, philosophies, etcetera." ๐Ÿ˜” RIP Walter Koenig. ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿป Live long and prosper.
