Capt. Douglas J. Bradt and other senior officers had openly sponsored an intensely homophobic atmosphere aboard the ship Belleau Wood. None were punished. Bradt now lives in San Diego, where he's a right-wing nut. 3/3

The Navy tried to cover up the Schindler killing. Helvey is serving a life sentence, and was most recently denied parole in March 2026. Vins cut a deal to testify, and served less than a year. His whereabouts are not known. 2/3

This is a detail of the figure of Death writing the name of Pope Urban VIII onto a scroll of the dead. It is part of the tomb of Urban VIII in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

This is a promotional item from the Tremont Nail Company in Wareham, Mass. It was the oldest manufacturer of steel cut nails in the United States. It probably dates to the 1950s.

Woodmen of the World was a nonprofit that provided burial insurance. The longer you paid in, the nicer the memorial. This is probably the nicest one I've seen, because it has the inscribed areas colored. Woodmen still exists as a life insurance company.

About a fifth of those who voted for Trump in 2024 now disapprove of his performance. If they stay home, it's not a victory for progressivism. Just an abeyance in the disaster. If they actually change their votes and vote Democratic, that's major.

The Cook Political Report, has re-rated the Ohio governor's race as "Lean D" from "Toss-Up". "It's an inescapable law of politics: Money can only propel a campaign so far when [Ramaswamy's] flaws act as an anchor," the nonpartisan ratings organization wrote. www.cookpolitical.com/analysis/gov...

Written by J.D. Feigelson and intended to be an independent horror film, CBS bought the script. Almost no changes were made. It's one of the best horror films of all time, IMHO, and clearly the best made-for-TV ones.
