I've been using tactile counters. First a silicone kids toy with numbers and letters, then plastic purpose built for stitch/row counting and now tally counters.

> I’d wander around the house, driving my wife insane, unable to sit down and get comfortable. My body was just screaming at me to do something. That's me this week! (Last week before a new job.) I ended up moving a sofa, assembling a new bed and figuring out wall plugs enough to hang my guitars!
