Curious as to how other sellers are intending to deal with new EU legislation regarding packaging. From August 12, every package sent to another EU country will require a local representative apparently but how will that work for so many individual sellers? @bandcamp.com any help please?

It's not good at all. It affects everyone sending items to the EU, with some very costly solutions and fines. Do a search for the new PPWR laws and try not to get too depressed, or read the myths that exist around it already, as it affects everyone!

If they enforce it as is, then this is literally the only way small labels / makers survive. but the real challenge will be that each time this happens, customers are less willing to take the risk of ordering from abroad so sales drop regardless.

From the little I’ve read on it, it does sound really prohibitive. Does that also mean people selling on Discogs or Vinted are affected? I don’t understand what UK labels are to do as a solution.

Don't know if you've seen it but there seems to be an update from the EU saying the goal is not to restrict trade, and as such EU states shouldn't punish non-compliance without first engaging with sellers and giving them time to adjust.

This time I think we're not going to bother with any kind of compliance until they make a rule that it's actually possible to comply with! Maybe it'll turn out to be completely impossible to police or just completely ignored by everyone like a lot of these stupid new rules.

I know what you mean but a lot of people thought this about IOSS and then hundreds of packages of vinyl and CD were returned to them! I know of labels who thought this might be avoidable too

but various previous recycling/packaging rules and pretty much all of the ridiculous GPSR safety rules caused a huge panic and then have been pretty much ignored in many cases as nobody polices it unless its a big company, although we'll probably pause EU shipping just to see how it works out.

Looking forward to shipping to Germany. 🤔 Remember that first German recycling scam? You paid for a licence for a self reported amount of packaging and they gave you a number... which did nothing. There was no way or requirement to attach it to a package and no way to police it. Utterly pointless.
