The biggest misconception I have about Canada is that if I moved there I would feel obligated to start learning French

You would be forced to learn the tiny amount of French all anglos know from signage and packaging, in the sense that it’s omnipresent and your brain can’t avoid noticing that “sortie” always appears alongside “exit”. But we’re so segregated that you’re unlikely to feel a need to speak it.
