Sorry, but if you’re mad that the Southern Poverty Law Center paid informants to infiltrate Nazi groups to expose them, then you are a Nazi.

If the Southern Poverty Law Center paid informants to infiltrate Nazi groups to expose them, it was probably because the US government failed to do their job. Was it illegal? I don’t know. But it doesn’t make them wrong. A lot of illegal things were done in the name of justice.

Dems for a year and a half: no, not everyone who supported him is racist but his racism was not disqualifying, which is why I'm upset. I'll try to do better and allow a way back. MAGA from now on:

And incase you were wondering.. no, they do not require judicial approval (a court order) to pay any undercover or confidential informants.

When I was a kid, CSIS (the Canadian equivalent of the FBI) had infiltrated the Heritage Front, and half the leadership were informants and agents. Infiltrating terrorist groups is effective and necessary.

You’re a racist if you start your sentence with, “I’m not a racist, but…” You’re sexist if you start your sentence with, “I’m not sexist, but…” You’re ageist if you start your sentence with, “I’m not ageist, but…”

There are so many…”I’m not a science denier, but…” Although I’d accept, “I’m not a scientist, but…” because even though I’m not a scientist, I trust scientists’ expertise.

Given their prior association with the FBI it is possible the FBI recommended and trained them on the use of paid informants to infiltrate Nazi extremist, racist and antisemitic group to assess the domestic threat they pose to our nation.

I listened to Dan Goldman last night, who said Blanche gave no indication of his politics when he worked with him. So either Ol' Todd was biding his time to get his freak on, or sniffed the $$ and said, "Yes. Thank you sir."

Dan Goldman doesn't strike me as naive. When you're held to standards, which the DOJ was prior to Trump, maybe you keep to the standards until such time when you don't have to. I don't think Goldman & Blanche were buds, just colleagues, and from what Goldman saw then, "he seemed ordinary."

I mean, Goldman is proud of his time working with ICE as a federal prosecutor, and I am old enough to remember that ICE / DHS was also absolutely fucking awful during Trump 1.0 when Goldman was working with them. I think his “tough on crime” attitude makes him naive when it comes to law enforcement.

Well, think of it this way: they have probably tried for years to come up with something, anything, to attack them over, and they found nothing except a completely normal practice of paying informants. So we know the SPLC is as ethical and squeaky-clean as we always imagined it to be.

The theory of the case seems to be that not clearly publicizing the use of paid informants and not transferring the money to informants using their actual names constitutes fraud. Of course, hiding names and actions is something Nazis or the Klan would never stoop to.

Sorry - what do people think groups like SPLC do? Just raise awareness of hate groups? They attempt to infiltrate these hate groups so they can see what they are planning to try to stop the rightwing hate attack before people die.

If the government criminalises anti-fascism they are fascists I guess if the government criminalises the investigation of terrorism they might be terrorists

The FBI and the DEA pay confidential informants all the time to infiltrate criminal organizations. The SPLC regularly provides information about hate groups to the FBI and other law enforcement agencies who know exactly how the information was obtained. The indictment is absurd.

Turns out they lied about black-and-white facts in their complaint as well. United Klans did not have anything to do with the "4 little girls" church bombing; it was a small splintered-off group. You do not screw up hard facts on a complaint filed with the court and get to call it a "mistake".

Um, infiltration in a group prone to violence would be inherently dangerous. Being ethically motivated to reveal the inner workings and motivations of a secretive organization, whether far left or right (Klan, Mob, SDS/Weathermen) might sound noble, but we's got bills to pay.

This should be quite interesting if it ever reaches a courtroom. The Southern Poverty Law Center shares their findings with the FBI and has since their beginning. They have been instrumental in uncovering heinous crimes, so DOJ may want to think about what they will be required to present in court.

I can understand why some are upset by this and it doesn't make them a nazi. These aren't undercover cops we're talking about and there's reports now that they took money from the state, not just donor money, but from tax payers too. These are groups already known. This didn't dismantle them either.

The analogy is more PIs than cops. And no, as a long time supporter of course I knew they had to pay informants; the basis of the case is bullshit. Three million over ten years that the program was in operation is chump change. Citation needed for state funds going to the program.

They're being accused of paying leaders of these groups and online groups in some cases, including ones involved in planning the Unite the right rally in Charlottesville. How is that just 'informants'? All I was saying before is people have a right to be upset about this without being called nazis.

Please also - provide the citation previously requested for taxpayer dollars paid to informants - find a single SPLC supporter who didn't understand we were funding informants to get the intelligence report off the ground

"accused" by people upset and seved ties by what they continued to uncover. You do realize the DoJ no longer has the "presumption of regularity", right? The white nationalist are running the executive branch, dominating the judiciary, and barely holding onto majority in the legislature.

2024, Trump rally at MSG featured high-profile supporters including Elon Musk, Dana White, Hulk Hogan & Tucker Carlson the tone and imagery of the arena gathering COMPARED TO 1939 pro-Nazi rally The event drew severe criticism across the political spectrum due to crude and racist remarks -

just because a Law Enforcement Agency does something - let's say eavesdrop on someones phone calls - doesn't make it "fair game" for anyone else to do the same. I like the balance of it myself, but that isn't how that works legally

The FBI frequently infiltrates groups it is investigating, using undercover agents and paid confidential informants to gather intelligence, prevent terrorist activity, and dismantle criminal organizations. FBI (.gov)

The practice of infiltrating groups has been going on for a VERY long time. Perhaps DOJ wld like to speak w the FBI. Or just look at what Hoover did w the Black Panthers and MLKs groups.

But it will take resources away from fighting hate groups, which is probably the whole point of the lawsuit. SPLC will need more $$. Which will take $$ away from fighting fascism.

I’m still waiting for the crime. IANAL (wow, that’s unfortunate, I am not a lawyer) but since when is paying ppl to give information illegal? It’s the reason social media exists.

If the SPLC would stop labeling conservative Christian organizations as hate groups, there would be no problem. However, that's kinda hard to do, given the homophobia and transphobia that these organizations promote, which directly harm children. @splcenter.org is supposed to ignore that? Why?

So, when the FBI, CIA, HLS pays informants to WORK for them it’s fine but NOT SPLC? That makes zero sense. Even police do that. Are they meant to be volunteers? What?

Oh yes, famously everything risky done for journalism and investigation should only be done for free. People don't deserve to paid for their work when it's like that! (Sarcasm)

I saw reporting headlines that purposely left out those details. They are really trying to control this story. It’s insulting. They’re making it seem like they’re the ones defending Americans from racism. We see how diverse they are. 🤣

Well, he's a bully. He threatens and throws tantrums, and sadly, sometimes it works: groups and people give in. Which is a huge mistake. Never try to placate the bully. Stand up to him, and he will back down. 100% of the time.

Sounds like a bunch of white supremacists got mad their groups were infiltrated. This really shows what type of administration the USA is dealing with its about protecting hate groups. This is the type of work SPLC did to educate the country what roams our streets across the country.

Exactly, the behavior shows daily. When the Blood Tribe group marched at a local park called Cranes Roost in Altamonte Springs, Florida. It was a clear indication we have a serious problem with white supremacy hate groups. They were seen scattered across the state of Florida. Repubs were quiet.

As the Germans say: "Wenn an einem Tisch ein Nazi und zehn andere sitzen und keiner spricht sich aus, dann sitzen da elf Nazis am Tisch." ("If a Nazi and ten other people are sitting at a table and no one speaks out, then there are eleven Nazis sitting at the table.")

Trump despises the whistleblower! In his first term, he tried to use non-disclosure agreements, but was shot down by the courts. They always work for him throughout his crooked business career.

David Sachs. Ugh. Claiming SPLC “plants” were engineered to foment racism to drive donations. SPLC isn’t Project Veritas, Dave. But I get you. You’re all in to make crypto king as critical fintech which just happens to pump the value of your crypto plays.

While all of that is true, one also has to be mad at nearly every LEO. Because that is a well established & accepted practice in EVERY agency. Whether it is a paid informant, or a paid employee, LEOs frequently provide recompense for infiltration of group.

To me, this looks like they want to uncover active agents and recruiting tactics. There is no good reason to attack anti-nazi groups, unless you're a nazi.

I'm waiting for the details to emerge on how many times that SPLC actually helped the FBI over the decades break cases that were the result of SPLCs informants. But of course the MSM will likely not even cover one day of this hearing.
