this is a pretty good point that often is getting lost coming and going. it's about expertise, man. and I know that a lot of the AI stuff is romanticizing the idea that you don't need to have it, but you actually still kind of do, if you want anyone with expertise to take you seriously.

Do you have evidence for that 50%? Not, "how often do people mistake human writing for AI," but "how often do professionals mistake pitch letters, related to their career, written by humans, as written by AI?"

AI is like Tony Stark's suit, and either you can either don it with full knowledge of how it is supposed to work, or you can don it with no knowledge and crash into the ground at mach 2. Unfortunately, it is not be marked as a tool for the former, but for the latter, with predictable consequences

this is why I can simultaneously be pretty sure that all the robotic emails in my inbox that mysteriously started appearing in the past couple years are AI, and also have very little respect for people who claim they've built zero false positive AI detection software being used for witch hunts.

it absolutely BAFFLES me that people can not connect A to B here. are you not afraid of looking like an idiot on the internet??? LOL DON'T YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANXIETY AND RSD??? bsky.app/profile/tolc...

this is the whole thing where everyone is like, "I'm ok with AI in [INSERT X FIELD THAT IS NOT THEIR FIELD]" but simultaneously "OMG it's so bad and wrong" in their own field. Gently, it's probably wrong in those other fields, you just aren't an expert.

i can't believe all these ppl asking you, "How do you kNoWwwwwww". You know because it's your job. And we are extremely good at spotting patterns/repetition in writing. It's very, very obvious if you are a writer.

But they can! They can hire someone (or a whole team) to give them a personalized intensive course in any subject that interests them. They can buy whatever studio or lab equipment they want. They can visit almost any facility in the world, in any field. But they'd still have to do the work.

I mean, if I were a billionaire, I'd ask a local university what it would cost to get unlimited lifetime access to their facilities and consulting time with their faculty, and I'd just keep adding zeroes until they said yes.

Well sure, they can hire experts but theoretically the experts can refuse to sign on. Even though economic pressures still leaves them with the vast majority of the power, they want to have all the power.

And the thing about experts is that they will say “okay but it doesn’t work like that” and the billionaire doesn’t want to hear that.

And the experts won't always tell them what they want to hear like their squawking furbies on meth will.
