Also mutes take alt text into account. If you mute a word and it shows up in alt text, you won't see that post. I deeply appreciate people who use alt text!

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

Someone once replied to me saying this with some version of "so maybe I don't want it to get muted, this way you'll see it" and that was one of the most revealing comments I've ever gotten.

Xopher Halftongue RESISTS!

Person is obviously a jerkwad, but this kind of response mystifies me. What did they intend to accomplish by saying that to you? Are they just collecting blocks? Or did they expect you to say "Oh, well then, that's OK"?

you would be astounded by the contents of my notifications on a given day, I suspect. lol

Yikes. And here I've been promoting alt text to people as a way to filter out at least a few of the "so you hate waffles" replies by letting at least the more self-aware users filter out topics that routinely annoy them!

Big overlap in the "I don't care enough to be thoughtful" crowd and the "I want to make you see things against your will" crowd.

You also can add secret jokes! (I will admit to forgetting about 25% of the time.)

There’s a setting you can set under Accessibility that requires alt text for posts with images so you don’t forget!

Ditto for those who alter their w/ords so people @re forced to s33 them, that is a HUGE peeve of mine

I'd say letting people mute images without alt text would be a good idea, but that cohort of posters would start keymashing to bypass that too.

People realizing, via the Internet, that other people only interacted with them because they were forced to, was such a breaking point for so many chuds. (Probably a good venn diagram for restraining orders too) What do you MEAN people don't have to interact with me?!
