On the occasion of Halloween, @newrepublic.com asked me to write about what’s going on in Chicago and I wanted you all to know what randomized terror feels like. And also that as the federal government fails our kids, everyday Chicagoans are showing the courage of trying to protect them.

newrepublic.comICE Is Terrorizing Chicago for Halloween—and Parents Are Fighting BackFear and a whiff of tear gas hang over festivities this year. In response, even people who aren’t usually politically engaged are mobilizing.

So now that the gun humpers have a real example of why Americans need to be armed against Government tyranny they’re nowhere to be found. When we do pass common sense restrictions on owning guns, this needs to be a prime example of the fact tga guns kill innocent people more than criminals

ICE terror is sort of like school shootings. It can and will happen anywhere and at any time and our kids, wherever they live or whatever they look like, will see it. The former is enabled by government inaction. The latter is a direct result of government action.

I kinda hate that Kristi Noem is the art here because in the end this isn’t a story about her or idiot cosplaying ghouls like Greg Bovino but is instead about us and the power we all have to show up for each other because we have no choice. So here’s a pic of our Lego Batman trying on his costume.

Such an important statement. The climate of fear created in communities will be indelibly imprinted on even the youngest children. Babies & young children sense when adults are stressed & fearful. This constant stress can undermine development. Heartening to see communities wrapping around families.

Its mind boggling 72.4M voted to set women back 60 years, immigrants detained and disappeared, US military is now a homophobic wet dream, while our poorest children (1 in 5) are on the verge of losing healthcare & food. No greatness here.

That’s not what they voted for. And claiming that threatens a unity that is rising. Republican voters also lose snap. Republican voters also have to breathe in the residual tear gas that ICE deploys. And besides a threat to unity, 72m voting for the worst parts is false. They were conned.

They wanted this to happen to other people not them. This is what they voted for and got. You can say their were lied to, but that fact was easily discoverable at the time. They actively wanted this or chose willingly to be blind to it. Excusing their bad behavior is NOT a way forward!

It’s not to excuse them. Because if your saying it was so obvious what was coming why wasn’t anyone prepared for it? No democrats, no activist, no one prepared for the obvious outcome of electing 47? Thats immoral too. Except the truth is that no one was predicting this exact version.

"They were conned." Maybe the first time, but sure as hell not the second time. Nearly one million people died under President Drinkbleach. And 72 million voted to do it again. Because they share his values.

Nah. People have agency. Maaaaaaaaany are just addicted to white supremacy and patriarchy. Those systems are their binkies, their security blankets. Unity can still happen (not giving up, just being historically literate) but those folks have to demonstrably denounce those oppressive systems.

Tearing down =/= building up. The left got lost on this for a little. Building up > tearing down. We build the new coalition. Not spending on unforgiveness. Spending instead on invitations with our terms.

The fact is 220 GOP house members and 50 GOP senators voted for this. Thats ALL of them. Their big death bill is murder by policy. The constituent vote mattered, not only for president. The result is devastating to 10’s of millions of Americans.

Talk about scary- her plastered on plastic face. She’s a horrific GHOUL out to routinely gang up and beat and KILL children, elderly, brown looking people, really any random people. And puppies. And goats.
