U.S. journalism and punditry completely ignores the fact that the U.S. electorate belief system --including their belief of what Democrats stand for -- is shaped predominately by a massive right wing propaganda network across AM radio, broadcast TV, cable news, and the internet.

semafor.comLeft-wing ideas have wrecked Democrats’ brand, new report warnsThe center-left group Welcome relied on polling of hundreds of thousands of voters over six months for its findings, shared first with Semafor.

you can't talk about US politics and polling honestly without having a conversation about how the American news and information diet is comprised of infotainment sewage and agitprop. Yet you could pluck literally any news story from the feed and find ZERO mention of Republican propaganda successes.

not only do you have a vast right wing propaganda network that's growing all the time (NY Post, Fox News, Sinclair, AM Radio, now CBS, probably soon TikTok), you have a corporate press that's been fecklessly bullied for a generation to be soft on Republicans lest they be accused of "liberal bias"

on one end you have this massive right wing propaganda bullhorn lying about what Democrats stand for bolstered by a corporate press that's routinely gamed by Republicans to validate and amplify these lies then you have pundits wondering why the electorate so often votes against its best interests

just play along with me at home: any time you read journalism on U.S. politics, polling, or electorate's beliefs, see if it makes ANY mention of the U.S. public's news and information diet, or that ANYTHING AT ALL might be a bit rotten in the way the U.S. public gets informed on the issues

none of this, it should be clear, excuses shitty dem proposals and messaging, or their failure to recognize media policy reform as something they've neglected for a generation but I can't respect any journalism or reports that can't recognize the extremely effective Republican information assault

For 40+yrs, the phrase "class war" was used by msm against liberal Ds while Rs were cutting taxes for the rich to benefit the wealthy, waging class war against the poor & working class; the words "elitist & condescending" were used by msm against informed Libs & Ds who warned public abt R policies

you'll find most mainstream outlet journalists were hired specifically FOR their inability to see this problem, or any lack of courage to challenge it

"Over those 11 years, the share of congressional Democratic co-sponsors of a bill to study reparations for the descendents of slaves rose from 1% to 57%." Hard to respect a writer who can't spell "descendants," while citing a "bill to study" that few voters ever heard of.

You nailed it. The Semafor article is garbage. We are faced with a media system that constantly tells us what we think and believe. It is always picking apart the left as being out of touch while ignoring rot on the right. We do have some people so stuck to their purity tests that they can't /1

the consolidated corporate media onus is always on the left to shift further right while the right can literally murder people riding around in boats with only modest blowback

See the forest for the trees, but the majority of us do see the big picture. If we can't get OUR message out, then all the side issues dems focus on will never see the light of day. It drives me crazy when people tell me what I believe based on garbage they heard on right wing radio and TV.

A stark illustration was Covid coverage early in Biden's term. What should have been a huge story was how RW media were trashing public health efforts during a raging pandemic in support of partisan gain. Yet MSM coverage barely mentioned the media role in partisan splits on vaccines etc.
