CBS is one of a dozen U.S. outlets that responded to authoritarianism by shifting coverage further right, which is why we're calling rounding up minorities in the middle of the night and dumping them in random countries they've never been to a "breakthrough"

That is a response out of fear too, especially when during the campaign Trump made very clear threats to them… Those who resist instead of bend earn my respect, so I’m taking note of this.

I had hoped that axing Catherine Herridge marked a turning point at CBS, but I guess they just realized you don't need to pay star reporter salaries for stenographers.

The Los Angeles CBS local news turned obviously more right long ago. We stopped watching completely when they aired a segment with a woman in a maga hat complaining about her trump yard signs being stolen. They aren't even fox lite - they are the spitting image of fox.

CBS is controlled by GOP mega donor oligarch Shari Redstone and will soon be controlled by GOP mega donor oligarch Larry Ellison via his son who is older than Larry's latest wife. bsky.app/profile/karl...

seeing the list of countries named, I suspect they're also printing an outright lie in that previewed text- were these people actually "unauthorized" or were they authorized refugees who had their status abruptly yanked?

It would be just outrageous if the countries were 'random' but they are not. The 'random' countries are partners who are willing to conspire to harm civilians of another country who have no criminal convictions. It would be like Canada deporting a US student caught working in Toronto to Iran.

I'd be curious how much it's motivated fear of retribution. One of the sickest things about pres Elon and Assistant Trump is their willingness to use the power of fed govt to punish those they don't like. Blackmail, fines, bribes, lawsuits. They will do it all.

Also the article says sending 119 people from places like Nepal and Uzbekistan to Panama is a “significant win” for Trump. Yes, sending a tiny fraction of undocumented immigrants to a place they are completely unprepared for is a “significant win.” Truly disgusting way to talk about this.

Undoubtedly, Trump leveraged the fact that in July of 2024, under the Biden Administration, an agreement was made for the US to help finance repatriation efforts in Panama. 👇 You might note we did NOT send people there like Trump is doing. www.dhs.gov/archive/news...

Trump just ratcheting up the cruelty again. What are these people supposed to do now. Did they give them any money or provide some kind of temporary housing. It probably would have been cheaper to walk them across the bridge to Mexico but they aren't going to go for that crap
