Nintendo USA had to pressure Nintendo Japan to bundle Wii Sports with the original Wii back in the day. Seems like Nintendo Japan doesn't like to give away free shit (even if it's a glorified tutorial).

I once worked with someone who was at LucasArts during the Star Wars heyday. He was concerned about a QA issue but his boss said "Wookie Shit in a Box" which meant it didn't matter, the fans would buy it no matter what

My guess is it has to do with no real lineup of new games for people to buy.

It’s worth $10…but that doesn’t mean we should pay for it.
