the terrible nier gacha has a private server in the works which i would not ordinarily mention but this is the first domino that has led to a genuine japanese/american race war breaking out on twitter in the last 24 hours because elon turned on post translation by default

yeah lmao. i like this twist on this classic recurring discourse because the en players are fine with piracy but generally don't like ai whereas the jp players hate the piracy but are fine with ai

Mostly just timing but there’s now a kind of overlap where the broader debate about piracy that spawned from the Tekken thing is bringing out a lot of xenophobic attitudes which overlaps with the xenophobic response to the French riots.

The long and short is Japan is getting bodied by like a half dozen cultures over xenophobia and also a “legal=moral” attitude on display in response to the riots and Tekken piracy. This then overlaps with some Japanese people not liking that the pirate flag from One Piece showed up in the riots…

It’s just so funny because the Western Tekken community is playing this partially in protest over the state of Tekken 8, but Tekken 6 was a game they probably hated just as much back in the day.

i can't see that much because i fully uninstalled twitter from every device thank god but the best post to escape and enter my orbit so far has been a rare pro-piracy jp account posting "you can't complain about this until you prove you paid for every av you've ever watched" lmao

Also just want to add that I've been seeing a lot of Japanese posters push back against the insane anti-piracy tweets with actual arguments you could show your grandmother without being written out of her will.
