Mostly just timing but there’s now a kind of overlap where the broader debate about piracy that spawned from the Tekken thing is bringing out a lot of xenophobic attitudes which overlaps with the xenophobic response to the French riots.

The long and short is Japan is getting bodied by like a half dozen cultures over xenophobia and also a “legal=moral” attitude on display in response to the riots and Tekken piracy. This then overlaps with some Japanese people not liking that the pirate flag from One Piece showed up in the riots…

because, just like our right wingers, they have a lot of “keep politics out of our media” types. This then overlaps with a bunch of Japanese right wingers being pissed that Trump’s restrictive visas got an Umamusume event cancelled, so they’re getting roasted about their support of him.
