multiple big videos pushed on my homepage about how bad netflix avatar season 2 is. most cursed franchise of all time. its really really really hard to tell a story for babies about a little kid going on adventures and eventually defeating The Emperor. its the hardest thing you can do

Probably the funniest dumb change they made happens during Zuko Alone In the original he considers stealing food until he sees the pregnant woman. This shows he is willing to do immoral things, but still has a heart In the Netflix version he steals it despite seeing the pregnant woman

There is also the change they made to Toph inventing metal bending where they have her declare "I'm Toph Beifong and I invented metal bending" for second screen watchers

I'm more surprised by the fact that show got a season 2. Would've thought that it ended up like live-action Cowboy Bebop and died after one season.

it genuinely does not make sense how bad they are fucking it up when they couldve just directly remade the source material and it’d be better

the well-received fighting game revealed to have been designed by a serial abuser, and the well-received animated movie showing a chatgpt prompt at a panel... at this point it has to be on purpose.

is it good when a series is pumping out a hundred thousand new projects at once and the only one that’s not imploding in real time is “the dlc track for the sonic racing game looks decent I guess” chat

It's what happened when the lead writer leaves and makes his own show. The Dragon Prince which feels a lot more Avatar than anything that has come out since.

Aaron Ehasz is widely known to be a hack piece of shit who takes credit for the work of the women under his abusive employ. His (now ex)wife Elizabeth is, in all likelihood, nearly solely responsible for the depth & character work the show is famous for, having singlehandedly penned Zuko Alone.

many creative teams have spent millions of dollars trying to adapt the children's show "avatar: the last airbender" and they all fail because its so impossibly hard

that first series is a real flash in the pan. has me going pepe silvia over it sometimes, unable to find anything it does wrong

All they have to do is remake Korra as a mid-budget live action teen drama that focuses on Korra's social life in the big city instead of sending her through the torture and despair gauntlet every season.

It very much reminds me of the same problem the Disney live action remakes. Multiple nostalgic regurgitations that make an ass to themselves trying outsmart the source material, which ends up making a relatively simple kids’ show look mature by comparison.

yeah i dont understand it. the show is very simple and it works in its simplicity. aang is a happy go lucky guy then he has to fight someone and remembers he's the victim of genocide but then he makes a new friend and he's happy again. this is every episode and also the entire show with zuko

That show pushed against a lot of hard and soft rules of children's television, but the adaptations are strictly by the book

I think it’s exactly because it’s a kids show that managed to handle some pretty adult topics in ways kids can understand that executives can’t figure it out. The new show babies the audience more than the one for literal children.

but even netflix' second screen writing aside, I remember flipping channels as a teen and finding that the episodes I had understood just fine as a kid now had like... info bubbles about references inserted into them. like even nickelodeon was feeling a bit queezy about it

I do love that theres so much 'accidental' screw ups that it keeps covering up the completely international bird brained choices like replacing actual chinese script with 'avatarese'

They’re two flavours of bad but also products of time. Dragonball Evolution is basically a Michael Bay action movie. It’s soaked in that 2000s grime and it desperately does not want to be its source material. Netflix Avatar is painfully nostalgic and wants to its source material…but ‘more adult’.

One is abrasively and unpleasantly ‘this isn’t your grandma’s (insert property x)!’ The other is blatantly crowd pleasing, more committed to the aesthetic…but written like it knows the audience is only half paying attention. In that sense, they’re painfully 2000s and 2020s respectively.

Absolutely crazy they didn't just Shonen movie that franchise, there should be 10 to 15 Avatar movies of dubious quality and impossible to place in the canon by now. A Dark Side of Dimensions where kid Aang and Korra team up to fight a villain with a new bending style I dunno some shit

Timebending. The bad guy has timebending. They lose all their memories at the end, nobody knows why we did any of this. Fans consider it the best of the movies, way better than the one where Alternate Universe Fire Aang travels to conquer the main universe
