i love seeing those “what 2000 hours in [game] looks like” videos for games that don’t have a particularly high skill ceiling. here’s what 2000 hours of assassins creed unity looks like. mostly just kinda slowly climbing over things same as always

there's a dishonored video that is actually a good example of someone who routed and perfected a run to impress people and I can't remember the title

See there's also the thing of a lot of these games just don't have 2000 hours worth of depth to really dive into either so just just kinda sit there wondering what the hell they did for those 2000 hours

There’s a really funny sub-variant of this where the person also doesn’t really put an exceptional amount of time into a low skill ceiling game. “This is what 50 hours of black ops looks like” Buddy that’s an abridged let’s play

i actually think that one is kinda charming. assassins creed unity is a broken ass game with a bunch of weird invisible tech to make the parkour system work that no casual viewer can see. the ones i'm actually rude about is like. the arkham games or the new god of wars. play a good action game!!!

too many to count but given this reply i'll assume this is for someone who likes arkham/god of war looking to transition into more rewarding action games without being completely overwhelmed; so I'd recommend like Ninja Gaiden Black (not 2), Devil May Cry 4 or 5, Bayonetta 1 or 2, Streets of Rage 4

But look how many cool down moves I can spam. Please ignore what combat will look like while waiting for them to fill back up

i do dislike those games and it can frustrate me how much more popular shallow, big budget action games are than some of my favourites but at the same time i cant lie i think one of the best things about games is that if you play them long enough you can kind of through brute force make any game fun

streamed dmc2 to some friends and it was mostly as miserable as everyone says, but once we got the rocket launcher the vibe instantly changed and we were popping off every mission lmao

if you spend a thousand hours with something you will find all the weird quirks and nuances and ways to challenge or express yourself in even the most boring game. sonic 06 is, by all accounts, like 100 times more fun to speedrun than play casually for this exact reason. thats kinda beautiful

that said it does not make me immune from seeing someone do red dead redemption 2 challenge runs and be like my friend i am on my knees begging you to play another game

I think if you get to the point where you make challenge run videos and they last 10 minutes bloated with intro and conclusion because there's like 1.5 interesting spots in the game where the challenge applies you should probably put down the game

unity in particular is such a funny game because my understanding is you have to actively wrestle with the game like it's a shapeshifter to make it look like that. two parkour buttons

I started Unity for the first time this year and it took me like 10 hours to get even kind of okay at not accidentally killing people because of how different and weird this game controls compared to previous Assassin's Creeds, to say nothing of the parkour side of the game.

yeah there is actually a bunch of advanced tech in that game but tragically no one watching it can see it because its all about trying to make the unfinished and broken but technically impressive parkour system actually work

Just looked this up, it's the same as my ~40 hours of experience looks like if you edit the parts where he just jumps the wrong way for no reason.
