the funny thing is when people do discourse about fandom ruining stories or the audience needing the moral lesson spelled out like babies its always aimed at whatever gay teenagers are watching but for me the poster child example is still the final episode of breaking bad

no one ever brings it up in these convos because it's serious stories for adult men but the scene where walter white gives a power point presentation to camera addressing the themes of the show and how he has absolutely learned his lesson is This to a T

Breaking Bad is not my favorite "prestige TV" show (that's a coin-toss between Deadwood and The Sopranos), but I will always appreciate how easily digestible Vince & co. made it. It's such an endlessly rewatchable show and it feels like they went through pains to make it so, and it paid off big.

He was cracking at the meth thing, every other element of being a criminal though? He Mr. Beaned his way through the criminal underworld while thinking he was Tony Montana

it is awesome how much he fucking sucked he could not work with and cruise by working with the mythical unicorn that is gus the only ever actually smart competent big criminal boss because he is a really cringe pathetic asshole who thinks killing a few no names makes him the ultimate bad ass

In fairness I think this was moreso intended as closure for Skylar as opposed to spelling out Walt's arc to the audience, though it does do that too tbh. Better Call Saul's finale though? 😬

It's ironic, because BB was always known for how the fans harassed Skyler White's (the second most likeable character in the SHOW) actress 'cus the character stood up for herself. Walter White is nothing to me. I never felt sorry for him. And those who do — fanbase — are always narcissistic incels.

I might allude name, sure, but I myself never idolize that character. It's well-written, that's why I feel so strongly about a fictional being. However that individual represents nothing short of somebody that chose to Leave instead of redeem the self. Walter is only a reckless father stereotype.

Walter White is, quite literally, the prideful AmeriKKKan breadwinner father who'll hurt his family and connections to get the validation he thinks is necessary. A stereotype. Nothing more than that. The horrible man you've seen a million times but Explained Why. And I don't feel sorry for him.

breaking bad has three endings and they get better every time lol. better call saul is just a more interesting story that plays to vince and co’s moralistic strengths imo. i never cared about walt whereas BCS is a genuine battle for jimmy’s soul

In college in like 2008-2012 along the east coast (Philly/NYC/Baltimore/DC) you'd see these stickers absolutely everywhere. For the early 00's this was the de facto "guys not getting the point" art, soon to be overtaken by Fight Club

To be fair, Walter got to die in a blaze of glory, looking at peace, instead of begging and screaming like a petty bitch Light Yagami style. Imho the writers fell in love with their own character and the ending they gave him was too nice

same. alone in the middle of nowhere with his massive piles of money that cant even buy him someone to talk to is really good, they just chickened out and gave him a more conventional ending at the last moment

tadc discourse more broadly but i suppose you can throw that in there. but specifically a frustration from people saying this is exclusively a problem for young queer audiences, whereas serious men watching serious shows never succumb to this
