I said customs fee, not shipping. I ordered <80$ worth of sweaters earlier this year and Belgian customs hit me with 107€ of customs fee. They'd have to store stock in the EU and ship from there to save their customers this nasty surprise.

I don't recall having customs fees for the various Makeship plushies I bought. You may need to declare the goods to pay VAT if not handled by the seller (otherwise customs may do it with admin fees). But again I don't recall any shenanigans with Makeship (for Denmark at least).
