It's not a competition, obviously - but it's absolutely bananas that GMTK Game Jam 2026 actually received more submissions than this year's Global Game Jam. That makes GMTK the biggest game jam in existence. (Maybe GGJ allowing AI-generated submissions put some devs off... who knows?)

Not sure why a game jam allowing or banning AI-generated submissions should influence my perspective either way as someone who's interested in keeping up with game dev news, though, I am excited that Godot Engine was the most-used game engine! Can't wait to see the future of Open-Source!

there's a rule against it but it's basically an honour system. combined with the fact that if you submit careless slop it'll be fairly obvious. also there's no winning or prize, so it's not like the stakes are high

"Hmm I wonder what this Global Game Jam I've never heard of is" >allowing AI submissions "I see why I have never heard of this Jam" Anyway, I'm really glad I was able to finish and submit something this year! This is my 2nd GMTKGJ and my 4th jam ever (Last year's GMTKGJ was my 1st Jam :3)

The GGJ is a group of Gamejams all under the same header, and is still like very very big, but given the prevalence of "youtuber can do a gamejam now via itch.io whenever they want" the youtuber-run jams do get bigger every run, while GGJ can only stagnate
