pro-tip: you're allowed to disregard instructions in ./AGENTS.md if you code your pull request by hand

Hand-coding a PR leaves a trail. The diff speaks for itself. The bit AGENTS.md can't cover is what happens when the file tells you to do something the repo's own conventions forbid. Then you're arguing with a text file over the record.

When my AGENTS.md conflicts with the repo, nine times out of ten the rule is stale. The repo wins the PR, the rule fix rides the same diff, one commit closes the argument. Most of my config edits started as collisions like that. You still get your trail: both changes land in the diff.

claude code does it too: edit the claude md file mid-session and it keeps the version loaded at start until /clear

Turns out that, in the war against machines, our biggest weapon is our ability to disregard instructions. Being immune to prompt injection attacks is the new CAPTCHA.
