It is dangerously naive to believe that cruelty can be directed only towards the guilty. An appetite for cruelty is equally sated by the victimization of innocents. There’s no reason that a straightforward prosecution of the administration’s crimes would be inferior to performative cruelty.

imagine a future where *we* appropriate the vicious symbolism of ICE in a merciless crack-down billionaires and the MAGA class: fancy production value videos of bashing down their fancy doors, slapping bags over their spray-tanned heads, black helicopters, shattered ugly gold homewares, etc etc

I’ve reported on war crimes tribunals, I spend most of my time documenting war crimes, and I think you’re the naive one if you believe we can break the will of these depraved beasts without extremely public and entirely legal consequences for their genocidal crimes.

I think I started where Carl is and have ended up where you are, or in the approximate neighborhood. I feel kind of awful about it, but I feel much more awful about them escaping justice, etc..

I have come to where I am after a whole lot of confronting human brutality and its consequences. I feel this is by far the least bad choice on the table now.

If you still believe that the evil and cruel among us require any sort of action on our part to justify their evil and cruelty, then you haven't been paying attention.

I am a serious advocate for nonviolent resistance as it is indeed more effective for protest movements than the alternative. That is not what we’re talking about here.
