Sometimes I’m reminded that many people still assume that the United States is still overwhelmingly the global leader and innovator in drone technology (both military and civilian), and hoo boy

as inspired by well meaning people asking if we can stop all these drone attacks on civilians by leaning on big U.S. defense companies (no, that didn’t exactly work in the GWOT days and it REALLY won’t work now)

drones have transformed warfare and our big push is to make 20 battleships

MAGA is throwing shit tons of money at drones but the problem is that they’re throwing much of that money at Palmer Luckey

Anduril and Hegseth and the Trump Large Adult Sons and the attendant remoras that feed upon them absolutely do WANT you to believe the U.S. is still the overwhelming global drone innovation leader (but that is not true).

What is the point of letting all these nerds into the defense industry if they're not gonna deliver us cool shit like Protoss carriers full of autonomous drone interceptors?

The U.S. is shoveling tons of money at drones right now but the problem is that that money is very largely going to dumb assholes who are good at marketing to other dumb assholes

ICYMI (this came to mind earlier today when I saw a headline about the pentagon opening its proving ranges up to "small, innovative" companies.) abcnews.com/US/trump-son...

The military industrial complex now is just a long con to steal as much money from the government as possible.

Hegseth believes in special forces and manly men warfighters, and Trump believes in gigantic capital ships with his name on them and steam catapults. We're fucking hosed
