these utterly dreary, hopeless people dead-set on trying to infect others with despair are genuinely my least favorite part of social media. at least an actively-offensive troll is displaying some recognizable spark of human vitality.

in dangerous times like today, our tolerance for miserable people who actively TRY to infect others with misery and hopelessness should be exceedingly low. And no, I certainly am not speaking about all depressed and hopeless people: I’m talking about those who TRY to make others feel that way.

there is a massive difference between someone who personally feels horrible and hopeless - and rest assured I’ve felt that way many times before - but doesn’t actively try to inflict this feeling on others, versus someone who deals with their own misery by trying to make everyone else miserable.

How can you tell the difference on social media? If you’re going into random strangers mentions to tell them they’re doomed, we’re ALL doomed, and everyone should give up now? You are a classic Doomer Typhoid Mary specimen.

I try to point depressed people (hi hi you are my people) to resources like Joanna Macy who make working skillfully with grief and despair an active practice point. There are many flavors of tools out there. Knowing we could have better can lead to getting stuck in the awful of not being there.

I always ask folks to remember the guy in the war movie who's like "oh man we're fucked now, we're so screwed, we're all gonna die!!" and remember how nobody likes that guy. And also how he's usually not around at the end of the movie.

I'm very pessimistic about the next 10-20 years. And also, I think the delta between where we end up if we work our butts off, and where we end up if we resign has never been larger. It will likely suck either way! But one will suck way more! Renewables progress and crowdfunding do give me hope.

I have engaged the use of the MUTE button often recently due to so many doomers. I do not need nor want all that negativity.

Someone earlier today was saying that every Republican voter knew exactly what they were getting with this administration and are gleeful about the current state of the country... their presumption was that every Republican read Project 2025 and heartily approved of it, and that's why they voted R.

I reminded them Trump repudiated Project 2025. Many of his followers believed him, considered it propaganda against his campaign. Many others never heard it existed. And that their statement was predicated on the idea that everyone is basically evil They replied yes, most people are evil. OK bye

As someone with a lot of anxiety, I find it really difficult to not spread doom and gloom. I can understand thinking things will be bad in future based on one's own knowledge, but saying things will be worse because others have hope is borderline pathological. Contempt for hope is ridiculous!
