I watched this excellent video over the weekend about King's Quest IV, and I was dumbstruck by how much randomness this game has involving necessary puzzles. It also asks bonkers things of the player, like to swim out into the ocean aimlessly to find an island that's not hinted at.

The early King's Quest games are meant to be fairy tales, but I think they have more in common with the dark fantasy of Souls games. The worlds are big and empty, mostly filled with player-punishing enemies. Take the wrong path? Death. Why is the castle empty except Graham and the King?

I feel like Lucasarts hit the sweet spot with point-n-click games. While Sierra's were fun, there was a lot of Moon (and let's be real, full on Jupiter and beyond) Logic in some of their puzzles.
