I don't actively follow gaming news but this is the second time I hear of an AAA game with modern hard-to-crack DRM accidentally releasing the non-DRM binary. Something something weird that it happened twice.

That blows - but of all the franchises to do it - they've got decent insurance in their regular content releases being unavailable on that pirated version. Horizons has some of the best post-release content drops of any game out there.

I'm not linking the discussions around it as it's just people pirating it now. The Steam change obviously got rolled back but now everybody is just pirating it to play early. Shit sucks, I know somebody who worked for years on it, the piracy will cost jobs.

I expect 95% of Steam users who ever buy games online wouldn't consider pirating a game under any circumstance simply due to convenience. And if you pirate the game and like it, there is an intense incentive to buy it on Steam anyway.

Yeah someone else also posted that but would this really hurt sales? Some are going to pirate anyway, now just a few days earlier than expected. Pirates get an easy release. But the real fans will still buy it? Or at least play on Xbox Game Pass? I think this tips scales, barely if at all.

I'm not saying this isn't a bad thing.. it really sucks for everyone involved in creating yet another great game in this series.. but it's not like the source code leaked in the middle of production like Half-Life 2, forcing a complete rewrite?
