@drewmagary.bsky.social Purple came out when I was 16 and while I'd probably say, "Ten" if you asked my fav album from that era... I bet if you tracked how much I listened to anything it was Purple. It was my zen album that I would sit and play video games and sing along with in my room on repeat.

Loved RHCP through One Hot Minute. I bought Californication as soon as it came out, listened to it once, threw it out, and never gave any of their newer stuff a listen. That last part is on me, maybe, but that's how much Californication pissed me off. Also that they couldn't make work with Navarro.

Man, if that's your darkest confession, the Pope ought to give up his mitre and crozier. I loved that band, even if Scott was not a particularly admirable person off stage. Like you, I can still listen to and love many of those old songs.

Fuck yeah they were. I don’t care too much for the debut album, though it has so many big hits, the real joy is in so many of their deep cuts. Silvergun Superman/Army Ants/Glide/Too Cool Queenie, etc off the top of my head

STP is amazing indeed, and this line put into words what I couldn't for the longest time about some songs: "Some songs feel as if they were catered specifically to your brain’s specific wiring—songs you subconsciously wanted in your life, but never existed until someone else made them."
