🇨🇦PM Carney just schooled our cowardly European leaders at #Davos. This speech was clearly aimed at them: "We must actively take on the world as it is, not wait around for a world we wish to be." "What does it mean for middle powers to live the truth? First it means naming reality..." (🧵1/6)

🇨🇦PM Carney: "...Stop invoking rules-based international order as though it still functions as advertised. Call it what it is: a system of intensifying great power rivalry where the most powerful pursue their interests using economic integration as coercion." (🧵2/6)

🇨🇦PM Carney: "It means acting consistently, applying the same standards to allies and rivals. When middle powers criticize economic intimidation from one direction but stay silent when it comes from another, we are keeping the sign in the window." (🧵3/6)

"It means building what we claim to believe in, rather than waiting for the old order to be restored. It means creating institutions and agreements that function as described, and it means reducing the leverage that enables coercion." (🧵4/6)

🇨🇦PM Carney: "Diversification internationally is not just economic prudence; it’s a material foundation for honest foreign policy, because countries earn the right to principled stands by reducing their vulnerability to retaliation." (🧵5/6)

Here in Europe we can only dream of having a leader who is so honest with citizens. Can you imagine a Europe where we had someone like Carney as 🇪🇺President? Instead we're stuck with von der Leyen, Rutte, Starmer, Merz, Meloni. Maybe they will actually listen to what Carney is telling them (🧵6/6)

Churchills last stint as PM was a disaster, he was well past his prime and out of depth. Bitter, like Trumo, that he lost an election he thought was his, so when he did win, he just tried to reverse the work of the people who had beaten him in 1945

Although it's always worth remembering that he didn't win the popular vote in any of the three general elections he contested as party leader, losing by a landslide in 1945, doing better but still losing in 1950, and losing the popular vote but winning more seats in 1951.

Euro leaders have not quite realized they are dealing with a madman who has no interest in cooperative politics- and would turn on any one of them. Canada knows 🇨🇦

I feel your pain. I live in Alberta, “Hellburda” which is the MAGA land of Canada. Our Premier “Batshit Smith” has actually visited Maralago. The creeps who support her talk about becoming the 51st state. So I totally feel your pain.

We in America call dibs on Carney. No reasonable person could honestly argue that we don't need him more than any other nation on the planet. Please Canada, lend him to us for the next three years[minimum] or until we get our house in order[maximum].

Telling a sadistic narcissist like Trvmp that you "don't understand" what he's doing is extremely weak and capitulating. It serves no purpose and it's probably a lie, at least I hope Macron isn't as clueless as this makes him sound

TBH, I don’t think people outside of North America know what it is like to live next to such an ignorant, imperious behemoth. We are kind of used to 🇺🇸🐂💩. Carney is finally saying what millions of 🇨🇦s have felt for years. There is no turning back for 🇨🇦; the old relationship is over.

Yup 🇨🇦 he’s frank and blunt. In general, he’s well respected. However, there’s a lot of disinformation from the opposition party (about 25% of the population are maga-like). I’m waiting for the spin on such a brilliant speech 😒

In WW1, Brits were the allied bosses & things were going badly, officers & leaders by inherited class status vs merit, doing the same failed strategies again & again, refusal to innovate. 🇨🇦's General Sir Arthur Currie did it differently & better. Turned the war around to ally win.

If war didn't end when it did, plans were to have Sir Arthur be the top boss, not just Canadian boss. Perhaps the UK & Europe will deeply reflect on what Carney said & is doing. Maybe they will adapt or the public will vote for better politicians.

Remember when some guy was there for something else and was asked what the problem was and then went on to lecture them about economic inequality and progressive taxation ? They never asked that guy back for some reason

Very few dispute the need to become self-sufficient, but it takes time and it would damage Europe more than necessary to alienate the US too soon. It depends on Trump. If he really goes for Greenland, it’s over, but let’s try to drag it out for as long as possible for our own sake.

No, Trump & the GOP don't want to make liberal Greenland a US state and allocate it 2 US senators and an elector in the electoral college. They want it to be a territory with little or no political representation like Puerto Rico or Guam.

Carney is great, but you do understand that we here in the US (who are sane) would still take ANY of the above mentioned over the giant steaming pile of stupid orange treason goo we currently have destroying and defiling everything in its domestic and international path.
