This is a piece I just played and I have no memory of it. It's like I'm listening to a new track by somebody else. I've been complicating beats by adding random hits for at least 5 years. The beat is a skeleton, random hits tapdance around the bones. chaircrusher.bandcamp.com/track/freue-...

In general my compositional techniques don't change a lot, but there's always new sounds to make, new twists on old tricks. When my music sounds messy & chaotic, it's actually constructed from simple sounds & sequences. I always try new ways to complicate them.

Some of my messy isn't generative messy, but actual messy. I can program machine beats, but I'm not great at playing live locked to a beat. So I just listen to the music and play along without worrying about being in the pocket.
