Another reason we love working on Point & Clicks: fixed cameras. You get to really compose your shots. Reveal subtle hints. Highlight red herrings. Maybe control the pace with a screen designed to be breathed in.

It's not a game that gets talked about much ever, but Chronos is a VR game that used fixed cameras very interestingly. They positioned you behind objects in a way that felt almost voyeuristic, like you were a creature stalking the protag through the dark halls of the facility they were exploring.

Absolutely agree! While full 3D games obviously can give a great sense of immersion in a world, I find point n click adventures stay in my mind more clearly, as skilful composition means certain scenes become absolutely definitive and iconic.

PS Ashamed to admit I was not aware of Phoenix Springs til now, but it looks right up my adventure-mystery alley. So I was well pleased to also see it is not only on Mac as well as Windows, but also available on GOG - have just wishlisted and will def be picking it up in the next couple of days. 😎
