My audio interface actually works better on Linux than it does on Windows

Imagine not knowing hxv line counts of your display

For me it was my wifi card. Had to find the kernal distro myself and even then i couldn't my graphics card to function proprly

I just feel like that's not true anymore. Like yeah I remember the PulseAudio days, but ever since PipeWire got mature, it Just Works, like damn. Even Bluetooth and low latency.

My audio's worked flawlessly ever since Scarlett Gen 2 got reverse engineered.

I have Nvidia headphones and it works just fine for me, idk what people are talking about

I'm sure this is a ragebait joke but It does in fact just work now, pipewire and wireplumber and bam it is gucci and it just works. It just works on steam deck and steam machine as well being Arch-based distros

Pipewire!!!

If you buy a *laptop with Linux* the audio is fairly guaranteed to work out of the box. This isn't really a rebuttal of your claim - more of a suggestion of a possible direction for the industry to go in.

I think Pipewire substantially improved the Linux audio stack

No. Getting midi to work is still a huge PITA full of pitfalls.

i like the new steam deck linux builds because they at least understand that most of their basic shit HAS to work out of the box, "do this command line thing" is thankfully not allowed to be a solution on handhelds

i play rhythm games and have been using linux for 8+ months, no major issues with audio out, not sure about recording. early on when i used kubuntu, i had audio buffer issues where the playback would kinda skip but i haven't had that in a while and not on cachyos so idk where the bad rep comes from

Bluetooth audio devices, on the other hand

you joke but i had crackling sound on an immutable distro that i simply could not fix with any pipewire config 💀

It was fixed fairly recently by Red Hat because Red Hat's paying customers wanted it.

Linux has historically had difficulty with anything audio. Its gotten a lot better but you still have to jump through hoops to do anything more than just play audio through speakers.

I had a laptop from 2009, and sometime in 2017, something changed so that, on every distro released after that date, the laptop’s external speakers stopped working. By the time I gave up on that laptop in 2023, I still hadn’t find a solution, and no help online aside from “it works on mine”.

Like I miss Linux so much but thinking about dabbling with music or anything audio related to it in there is more than enough to make me want to avoid it lol.

I.. I actually am having issues with audio cut-outs with my Valve Index that I can work around by raising the "quantum limit", but that breaks Mumble. It's confusing. Shush :I

got his ass

i was just waiting for a german to show up with this

Masterpiece, no notes.
