Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said the panel would be “fully prepared” to vet a Supreme Court nominee should there be a retirement at the end of the term, and would recommend that either Ted Cruz (R-Texas) or Mike Lee (R-Utah) get the nomination.

If Trump gets to nominate someone, I think he should pick Grassley. While he doesn’t have a law degree, A) A law degree isn’t required B) He couldn’t possibly be any worse than Alito C) He wouldn’t be on the court for decades.

If Republicans lose the Senate, anyone who thinks they aren't pressuring Alito and Thomas out of their seats and replacing them in the lame duck session with 0 Democratic votes (except maybe Fetterman) is delusional.

Mike Lee sucks, but believe it or not he has actually gone against Trump more often than only a few other Republicans in Congress. That means he won't get picked. Everybody hates Cruz so I don't see him getting picked either. I think it will be Pirro who is an even worse pick than either of them.

So she was elevated directly to a Court of Appeals and fast-tracked to the Supreme Court not 3 years later to rule on an abortion case-something made clear at both hearings. But that’s politics. She’s unqualified because her time practicing law wouldn’t even qualify her for a judgeship in my city.

Cruz has angling for it a long time. He's been with the Federalist Society since college worked to install as many conservative judges as possible. Andrew Davis previous Chief Counsel to Ted Cruz has a hearing coming up for an appointment to U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas

They want an ideologue like Alito. Alito is far from a legal genius. His writings are basically your uncle with a third rate law degree who is an avid Fox News listener.

No fuckin way. Neither of them. Especially Cruz. I don’t wanna hear that name or see that face the rest of my life. I’m banking on his public life to wind down, not take it up a fuckin notch.

Lol, the two least popular Senators amongst all Senators. The hearings should be fun but nobody doubts that either would be approved. Heck, this Senate would approve Adolf.

I've written to Grassley over the years, the responses have gotten worse. Years of "fighting for seniors!", now he'll just go along when they go after Social Security. Same as he has with healthcare. But his e-mails speak of him doing so much. Wondering if he is imagining, or dreaming this?

As of April 2026, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is 92 years old. Born on September 17, 1933, he is the oldest sitting U.S. senator and serves as the senior senator from Iowa, having been in office since 1981. Grassley is the longest-serving Republican in congressional history.

This is Republicans gently nudging Thomas and Alito to retire before November because of the high risk scenario that Dems take the Senate now and the presidency in 2 years. The Rs don’t want either of them dying in office during the next 6 or possibly 10 year stretch with Dems in power.

Cruz would be insufferable, Lee would be incompetent. Fuxsake either would be an insult to that institution ... and that's even with FratBro Kavanaugh currently on the bench.

Chuck Grassley is # 3 in line for the presidency. Vance, Johnson, Grassley. I guess Grassley forgot Trump promised Aileen Cannon the 1st SCOTUS seat, for keeping him out of prison.
