Mike Johnson on AI leaders calling for regulation: "We have to resist Congress jumping in & imposing some sort of emergency moratorium...the leaders of these platforms need to come together in a meeting w/us & figure out the right balance. We cannot put a moratorium on this bc China will overlap us"

All-or-nothing thinking (laissez faire vs total moratorium) is obstructive, and results in doing nothing. We would need a nonpartisan team effort of knowledgeable and communicatively effective public servants. Exactly the kind of thing this admin has been eliminating.

We need to resist the hype. These LLM-bros need to be investigated for financial fraud, the AI data center build out needs to be halted, & politicians need to get advisors on board who actually understand the tech, because clearly, they, themselves, do not.

Has anyone ever actually said what it's supposed to mean to "win Ai"? It's not like racing to the moon where everyone understands the end point

Has ANYBODY asked ANY POLITICIAN what the purpose of these megastructures is? "Doing data stuff" isn't an answer. You don't build a half a trillion dollar "data center" on the north side of Abilene, Texas without a clearly defined business model and customer contracts.

The Speaker of the House shouldn't be allowed from a state with one of the worst education systems. Johnson talks to the American people like we are all morons, easily manipulated, and as stupid as he is.

China has less than 500 trackable data centers, the US has 10 times that many. Germany and the UK have more data centers than China, why not mention them? The idea of China surpassing us on the data center front is absurd & yet another fear mongering ploy by the Rs.

Um, you should be meeting with China about this. You’re barreling full speed ahead and the people who understand the most are saying , “holy fuck this has to be stopped.” Nobody wins in some of the possible scenarios. It’s not about making money so gop will cover their eyes and pretend it is.

Chinese emissions started coming down a couple of years ago. China lacks fossil fuels (unlike the US) and so renewables is an economic choice for them not environmental

So… it’s a race to annihilation, then. Hey Pedo Protector Mikey, if you’re so anxious to meet Jesus, be my guest, don’t let me slow ya’ down. The rest of us want to finish enjoying our time with family, friends, and neighbors. Thanks.

Um….the ‘leaders’ of these platforms know that the AI bubble is about to burst and the question of the day will be - ‘is tech too big to fail?!?’ And whether we should bail them out because they are waaay over extended in debt jumping on AI before they knew what was happening!

Also, China's approach to AI development is different - more measured and pragmatic - from our 'bigger, better, faster' race to see who can start cashing in, big-time.

Because they've been tricked by the ideologically freakish tech bros into believing they're developing actual God-in-a-box. Meanwhile, it's the biggest financial scam ever, & they're falling for it.

Awful and illiterate. How about listening to the people and experts (including Altman) who are crying for sane regulation to avoid AI Armageddon? But donors say no. Go to hell.

It's incredible to me how many people are taking these so-called "AI leaders" warnings at face value here. Yes, congress should take action on how AI technologies are developed and deployed. However tech CEOs are absolutely NOT the people we should be listening to regarding such legislation.

"The companies that are putting shards of broken glass in our food should come together to agree on what is an acceptible level of glass shards."

How difficult is it to ask the Speaker “does the American government exist to serve the health & safety of its citizens or does it exist to compete with China in technological innovations?”

Sorta like when Obama held televised debates/conversations about healthcare? Could you image this congress doing ANYTHING with transparency!

They’re the masters at creating villains to allow themselves to perform evil deeds with no repercussions. Long gone are the days of us being the beacon of light in a dark world (if those days ever actually existed on some level)

wow taking the stance of "let's not even regulate the killer robots even though the CEOs are begging us to" is quite a stance to have (not that I buy the doom claims from these liars but this is still hilarious)
