Trump: "The economy is doing unbelievably from the standpoint of Wall Street"

In trying to defend the indefensible regarding the economy they've all had a hand in destroying, Republicans love to conflate the economy and the stock market.

I’m old enough to remember how well the economy appeared to be doing on the surface….just prior to the market collapse in 2008. Send Smilin’ Kevin Hassett out there to grin about the market. At least he smiles when he lies.

The "standpoint of Wall Street" is a convenient vantage point; it’s the only place where you can watch the house burn down and call it a "warm glow" for the portfolio.

Oh it has impact: the stock market is why everything is expensive but made shitty (cheap-ass, but the cheapness doesn’t result in lower prices to consumers).

Where there is money Trump wants it for himself. Others can have some if they will then do something that helps him get some more. He has no use for the rest of us. He is also just plain stupid.

"Stock ownership concentration in US has now reached historic levels, with the wealthiest 1% of households holding roughly 50% of all equities, and the top 10% holding upwards of 85% to 93% of the total market value, leaving the bottom 50% with roughly 1%." #ShellGame bsky.app/profile/atru...

He has all the markings of a spoiled rich kid! I’m so rich it never occurs to me what suffering from no money is like. tRump only knows how daddy taught him to cheat the system. What a frickin loser who voted for this POS your family should be embarrassed 🙈 Sometime in the near future he’s gone!

Every American taxpayer pays $27 a day in interest on the national debt—including Saturdays and Sundays, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve—and that cost is rising. Things are definitely not going wel

Hence his talk of declaring "bankruptcy" and not honoring Treasury funds. Robbing folks 401Ks and foreign governments who were engaging in currency exchange as a way to keep world economic flow intact. Short term gain, major long term cost. Like empire ending loss.

Even though nation states can't declare bankruptcy, not without damaging their export economy hard. Something Trump doesn't care about. But only works if your military can threaten enough and your supply side threats have teeth (like oil) Both things that are not a given now with the times changing

Wonder how difficult it would be to create a deep fake video account that creates fake videos of Democrats saying what Trump actually said, distribute them around right-wing social media to be attacked, and then later post it was actually Trump who said it?

"Wall Street" (meaning his stock portfolio) is at best a reflecton of what people believe the future of the economy will be primarily based on a small basket of tech stocks. That sentiment doesn't even carry over to the bond market. We're whistling past the graveyard.

"While 58% of adults hold stock, the Federal Reserve reports that only 37% of adults hold stocks, bonds, ETFs, or mutual funds outside of a retirement account." i.e. money they can't access and is currently being funneled into an AI / SpaceX bonfire so they will never see it.
