The problem with natural immunity is that, in attempting to acquire it, you have to get sick with the illness that had a 1% case fatality rate, clearly higher in some groups. You could always augment your vaccine-based immunity with a later case of Covid and have had less risk for death.

No one denied natural immunity. It was less reliable & would have required the unvaccinated masses to test if a valid test could have been developed. They would not even test for Covid. It was an impossible situation.
