The main reason I do not go outside is bugs. I went outside two nights ago and I now have 17 bug bites to show for it, ONLY on my ankles. And YES I wore bug spray + was only outside for maybe half an hour. They are so itchy I have no idea how anyone in the entire world tolerates bug bites regularly.

That is so annoying! You poor thing. Bugs do tend to love certain people and I'm so sorry that you are one of them. The main two reasons I don't go outside are the heat and people… But mosquitoes, especially in Florida, are definitely third on the list

Heat is also on my list! And the sun! “People” is certainly not far behind. Basically it comes down to, humans built the inside to get away from the outside and try really hard to keep the outside from getting inside (bugs, rain, etc)!

Excellent point. I also practice "strategic outdoorsing" - like storm chasing in spring and when I'm able to visit family up north in the fall. It makes me appreciate the outdoors that exists, and in my heart it remains lovely and precious. 🍁🍂

Have you tried the little itch relief devices which are super hot for about 3 seconds, but after that: No Itch! Much more effective than creams for me.

Great minds think alike. Ours do, too. bsky.app/profile/chri...

For what it's worth, those little devices that heat up to make the bites stop itching work, though they are a bit unpleasant and might not be ideal for so many bites. We have this one: www.shop-beurer.com/collections/...

Omg no I’ve never heard of that?! Sounds like a mentality of “your bug bite can’t itch if we burn it off entirely” and you know what I would do that rn actually, bout to go heat up a spoon with a lighter and press it against my skin fr

That is how the college kid who patented the fancier device first tested it on himself, or so I have read! Hot spoon! Hope he got rich. That's one of the versions I own, in the previous reply.

I found out yesterday that testosterone makes bug bites less problematic. This from someone who has experienced life both with a little of it and now plenty of it.

I’m assuming the bites are mosquitoes? There are places where they are not common. Much of Colorado (avoid Mosquito Pass). Much of the Pacific Coast for most of the year. I grew up in Houston. Every bite was a large red bump. Apparently I’m allergic to them.

It’s actually maddening. Like I am losing SLEEP because of how itchy they are. All my willpower is being used to not touch them. I am reminded of my time at summer camp when I got 47 bites on JUST my legs.

Just watched a "Freaking Reviews" on that device, he says he gets relief but requires 2-4 applications at full power, your milage may vary 🤷🏼‍♂️😉

Look, tucking one's trouser cuffs into one's socks won't beat the allegations of being an absolute dweeb, but it does help with the bug bite/tick/leech situation
