Language translation is not an AI function. There’s no intelligence in it and merely a lookup function. Stop pretending every computer function is somehow AI.

all contemporary computer translation services use language models more or less identical to the usual suspects, they've used machine learning algorithms for something like 15 years and transformer architectures specifically for over half a decade.

So they are just lookup functions with a bloated name. Intelligence would allow a word derived from two root meanings to be worked out. AI only does that if it’s told what the answer is from its data. It can’t ’work out’ anything.

i regularly portmanteau words together to express some composite meaning when i’m working because i trust the robots to figure it out more than i do actual people

An AI will never create a portmanteau or understand ine unless someone tells it beforehand what it means.

you'd hope but you are kind of combining multiple things here there are people who believe in poverty of the stimulus who aren't UG heads, and there are minimalist UG heads and maximalist UG heads, and everyone is secretly a minimalist UG head

weak ug is obviously true, and strong ug is basically unfalsifiable
