Most experts agree: diesel export ban MAY initially lower prices in SOME areas of the US, the south and midwest. But long term would backfire both in our national security (including alliances) and in price. Global Diesel prices would eventually skyrocket as a result and those prices would hit us

An export restriction does not create a new barrel of diesel. It disrupts a globally integrated refinery system and forces refiners to reassess their entire product slate—diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, and other co-products.

With supplies already building across major hubs and refiners having trimmed runs rather than operating at nameplate capacity, the immediate issue is not a physical lack of molecules. The likely result is market disruption, not durable relief.

Threatening to trap diesel distorts export flows and refining margins; once refiners adjust throughput to protect margins and storage limits, gasoline and jet-fuel availability can tighten and prices can rise. Energy Secretary Chris Wright has likewise said an export ban would not work

Undoubtedly true but Dear Leader would already have his headline which is all he cares about. No one would call him out when the repercussions hit and we all move on to the next crisis. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This administration is being run like a business, and this decision highlights why that is a dumb way to run a country. Businesses are focused on short term gains, short term reports, always focused on the current quarter. Countries should be thinking long term - like next century or two.

You might as well hoist up a white flag over the WH. It amounts to the same thing. These fools are totally baffled by the energy market. The U.S. both imports and exports petroleum products. Logistics, Refinery needs, Local supply demand imbalance. Too much for their tiny minds.

But the Democrats will possibly hold the majorities by the time prices skyrocket, so they'll get the blame. Again.

Repeat after me... Trump knows NOTHING about ANYTHING. HE IS A FUCKING MORON. He bankrupted a fucking CASINO!!! Where "The House" always wins...

How about we turn that you’re a true patriot bullshit back around on the big oil shareholders and CEOs? Like only truest American patriot knows not to profit from other Americans financial struggles.

Another idea would be to take the damn deal from Iran already and declare victory. If we have to give them the Trump family I think we're mostly all cool with that.

Who would buy all the diesel for storage at the highest price ever? Knowing that once you are full to capacity the price will drop 📉⬇️ before you sell it all. Government subsidies to oil companies?

Most of the refineries are in Texas (Houston?). Who would store the diesel after being refined? Seems like mostly 3rd party distribution/storage facilities. Total, BP, Hess... Sold most or all terminals.

That sounds like a perfect answer for Trump. Red states would get a temporary reprieve, making them think everything is fine now. Once the other shoe drops, the midterms will be over.

Its a desperate action to try and win over voters if he does it. Its as bad as saying there will be a $5,000 check to all Americans if you elect Republicans. It could help because it might temporarily lower diesel costs in the middle of the country, where Republicans are scared of losing seats.

Trump w/his IDIOT Circle Probably think the US is Strong enough 2 survive by itself Like North Korea & We've already FCKED our allies Anyway so who cares But the reason the US is The most powerful cuz All of our allies & trade partners Take all that AWAY & We're NOT even N Korea FLATTEN the Circle

Alliances, we don't need no stinkin' alliances, though I do recall in the early 70s tricky dicky price controls. Let's face it, if stopping exports increases prices watch the fossil fuel companies profits explode. If we had a functional government that could be dealt with.

"most experts agree...." In other words, none of the people in trump's circle. Understanding the very simple supply chain behind plain apples, oranges confounds a MAGAt. Thinking about diesel, gasoline logistics would put them in the ER, mandate 24x7 MRI monitoring

Absolutely rt End the F- ing war is only thing that would solve the problem! However the Henchmen are making so much money off the worlds misery 😔

This is what Republicans do. They piss and moan until they get their way and never take into consideration how we will all be paying for it on the backend. They are so reckless with our tax dollars and continue to gamble away our futures.

Not to mention the trade with , for example, Europe …..then you can keep your diesel for the end of time. Then it’s completely end with the trustworthy US(political it was already end )!

Another day, another incredibly stupid idea from Trump. Since diesel and gasoline are produced in a single stream, gas prices would go up as well, and an export ban would hurt our allies who have contracts for the diesel. This only makes sense as another favor by Trump for Putin.

It's an especially bad idea, supposed to somehow help us? Iran won't be hurt, our few remaining Democratic allies will. The main exporter of Iranian oil is China. Is Trump going to ban China from buying oil Iran? Does extreme wealth cause stupidity and can it be passed on genetically? Apparently so.

True, but upfront prices would go down, there's no disputing that. So, there would be a sweet spot. Once the storage is maxed out and refiners are going to cut production because there's no more room, you lift the ban. The problem becomes competency. Is the Trump admin competent enough to do it?

Major labor organizations and industry groups—including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA)—have stated they have no involvement in or knowledge of an organized strike.

I have heard it Friday Last week before the Nor'easter I was in Dollar General Many truckers pull in there on their way to upstate NY which is about 35 minutes north, employee there asks and they tell told him Alot of truckers have just parked their rigs and looking for factory logistics work

Uh huh. That would throw a short term fuck into parts of Canada that import diesel from the US. Until we restructure our distribution and produce more of our own. With oil we won't be sending south going forward cause we need to make our own diesel. Ain't trade wars grand?

We export less than 25% of the diesel we refine, most of it in tiny increments, mostly to Latin American & Caribbean neighbors. Not only will it torch our remaining shreds of soft power as you note, it won’t do anything to fix the underlying ~$100/bbl crude issue www.eia.gov/energyexplai...

Most experts would agree, we shouldn’t be burning fossil fuels. We should be embracing EV vehicles, solar power and better public transportation. Nah, let’s keep making/driving that fuel guzzling pig. Europe, Asia are so far ahead of us on efficiency. Stop chasing fossil fuel and think smarter.

Trump isn’t interested in long term. He’s just trying to put a band aide on temporarily to try to make it through the midterms.

Can we all just agree that Republicans are pretty short-sighted in their ideas to fix things? Short-term gains need to be implemented ONLY when the long-term effects have been studied and agreed upon by consensus.

It’s all about PR, they don’t give a shit about long term. It’s sound bites. Also, conservative main stream media are such liars that they compound the issues by not telling the truth

Why in the world do you feel compelled to continually find some small piece you consider good in every hellscape presented by the trump administration?

It would also crush the Caribbean islands which depend completely on America for diesel. Diesel for electricity, for vehicles, for boats. We would have to evacuate.

I would suggest that every G20 leader should call the Orange felon and tell him that a Diesel export ban will trigger an instant dumping of US treasuries sending US interest rates to the moon just in time for the midterms.

I would go further: The G20 should tell him to end his illegal war, comply with the MoU that he agreed to months ago, withdraw his blockade, and allow the Strait to re-open. That would bring down fuel prices worldwide.

Seems to me that the petro companies' reaction to this would be to reduce production of diesel fuel to keep the price up. Given the skyrocketing profits petro companies are enjoying, does anyone think they will do anything different?

I think Americans should all be listening, stocking up on staples, like some people did during covid. Prices are just going to keep going up and diesel prices will depend on daily availability. I remember gas rationing in the '70s. That wasn't fun. This could be much worse, it could be food rationing.

When Trump announced the War On Canada, I bought a year's supply of TP. I'm still working on the coffee stash I bought before "Liberation Day". Apparently, many Americans inexplicably believed Trump was not only going to "Bring Inflation Down" but that actual prices would go down. 1/2

2/2 I'm also old enough to remember gas lines and President Ford's WIN (Whip Inflation Now) pins, $0.39 cans of soup and $0.99 Big Macs. Biden got stuck with world-wide inflation after Covid; if Trump deliberately wanted to create inflation, he could barely do better than tariffs and oil shock.

Well, considering the creature making the decision doesn’t concern himself with long term impacts or the good of the country, he’ll probably do it He’ll do anything to boost GoP midterm prospects But I’m not sure that even trumps voters are this thick in the head

We are talking about an administration who doesn't think past the next hour. This a major reason we are in this economic mess. Complete lack of planning in Iran

Not to mention the oil companies would immediately draw such a ban into court. And idk about you but in about fucking tired of bankrolling government lawyers for stuff that isn’t putting people of the trump regime in jail 🤦‍♂️

If you put a ban diesel export, and a refinery can't put all of the diesel it is currently producing in a market, they must reduce their throughput, that would reduce gasoline make and jet make. It will only worsen the issues, however if the war with Iran were to cease then that will make a change

US has about 450 military base installations in continental America. They have thousands of diesel vehicles that need fuel. If not available America could suffer greatly if unable to respond to any emergency here. This is a threat to our national security. Make sure they are not out of diesel fuel.
