The media keeps noting how unpopular the "war" is with the American people. They neglect to note how unpopular the American people are with Trump.

I'm reading Ungers' bio of Lafayette. In the second half about the French Revolution. It's like watching a horror movie as the main characters do stupid things and you yell at the screen. Don't propose a constituent assembly! Don't lead that mob to versailles! Don't move the king to Paris!

I can’t imagine having a job that required me to carefully listen to Trumps’ speeches.

I wish news outlets that must know better (the economist, npr, etc) would stop reporting on DJI.

France should complain to Trump that “Emilia Pérez” did not win best picture at the 2025 academy awards.

The financial instability of The NewsHour is a civic crisis. PBS’s flagship nightly news broadcast can’t fund a weekend broadcast or keep its last bureau — Phoenix — open.

🧵In my expert opinion as a researcher of vehicle ramming attacks, what has been publicly described in the video evidence does not support the claim that Renee Nicole Good was attempting a deliberate ramming attack when she was shot in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. 1/7

If SCOTUS is going to remove the independence of agencies run by commissions, congress should start stripping them of rule making powers. Establish some of the rules in law, and delegate the rest to the states.

Legal question: if the tariffs are thrown out, and they order payments refunded, does Trump also have to return the personal gifts he extorted from foreign governments?

I don’t understand why the house (and senate) need to vote on the Epstein stuff. Trump can just release it, right?

Unpopular opinion: “clean” CRs should always pass. The only valid issue to force a shutdown over is a law to prevent all future shutdowns with default funding.

We should: Grow the house, to like 5,000 members Mandate multi-member districts of 5-10 members Require district boundaries be one or more whole counties (or burrows!) Require STV for the voting

"Lotteries and ritual stoning are integral parts of American life. Whether or not the lottery actually increases the yearly harvest, rural working-class Americans think it does. Let me be blunt: liberals who want to abolish ritual murder are the reason that Donald Trump won."

buff.lyStoning Our Neighbors to Death Makes the Corn Grow High, and Elitist Liberals Should Stop Attacking This Traditional ValueSince Biblical times, stoning people to death has been a horrible punishment reserved for the worst criminals. But now, in PC liberal America, the ...

What do people (in particular, reporters) think the difference is between the words “center” and”epicenter”?

TV show pitch Genre: police procedural A short balding man who can smell the future joins a small rural police department to solve crimes.

Do we really even need the FCC? Except at state borders, can’t the states regulate broadcast TV and radio? Do California and Alabama need the same rules?

What determines if food tastes good? If your head was somehow transplanted onto a pig body, would pig feed seem disgusting?

I wish the media would stop saying that the fed “sets rates” They set some rates, but they don’t directly impact most people. The fed influences the rates that matter, but lots of things (like a weird crazy president and irresponsible budget) can influence them more.

Assuming the funding cut goes ahead (seems like a safe bet), is anyone keeping a list of NPR stations that need help? I would be willing to join an extra station as a member to help out.

I don’t understand all the talk about an investigation into the signal fiasco. Everyone (both side) knows what happened: a bunch of incompetent and careless people were chosen for their personal loyalty, not ability.

Also, this won’t change anything This kind of scandal normally causes some resignations by embarrassing people. To be embarrassed you have to care what people think. They know their supporters don’t care. None of this matters

I take some consolation in the belief that during his bromance chats with Putin, Trump is getting tips on how to arrange for musk to “fall out a window” once he is no longer useful.

@jessicabriedl.bsky.social just listened to you on freakonomics, very interesting. In talking about tax rates (comparing amounts paid by different income level, and to Europe) you did not seem to include state and local taxes. Does that really make sense? Why?

When talking about security for Ukraine, remember: The US already gave them a security guarantee, and both Obama and Biden failed to honor it.

Why do none of Trumps cabinet secretaries have the same ridiculous spray tan? Are they not loyal to the Don?

Could California make it a crime (under state law) to defy a federal court order in a case with California as a party?
