+++ NEW RELEASE +++ We are pleased to announce Zettlr 4.9.0. Two crucial changes: 1. No more annoying "Update failed" errors! 2. Updates Electron, so drops support for old macOS and Ubuntu, but also fixes a critical security vulnerability. Update highly recommended! github.com/Zettlr/Zettl...

Another update: we have implemented a feature request, and from the next version onward, Zettlr is capable of rendering reference-style images, closing the gap to the CommonMark specification of Zettlr’s WYSIWYG mode.

Many have certainly noted that version 4.8.0 tends to give you way too many undesired "Update check" error messages. We have now found the issue and will release a new update soon-ish. Stay tuned!

Short note since some users saw admonitions don't appear to work with Pandoc: Zettlr is happy about keywords in lowercase and UPPERCASE, Pandoc still requires the latter. A fix is already in the pipeline, but hasn't been released yet. Until then, use UPPERCASE to have exports work as expected.

Also, Pandoc doesn't allow custom titles, which will also break the admonition detection.

+++ NEW RELEASE +++ We are proud to present Zettlr 4.8.0. Most prominently, this release brings support for admonitions (or callouts/alerts) to the app. Make sure to read the changelog, and get the new update in the usual places in the coming days: zettlr.com/post/zettlr-...

Heads up! Are you using Ubuntu 17.04 or macOS 12 (Monterey)? Then the next-next update (not the coming one) will NOT work on your computer. Should you be using an old OS, make sure to update it to be able to use Zettlr AFTER the next version!

+++ ANNOUNCEMENT +++ We have just launched a complete overhaul over Zettlr’s aging documentation. It is now based on Vue, much faster, more efficient, and just in general a better experience. Do you like the new design? Learn more and share your thoughts on our blog: zettlr.com/post/a-new-d...

After working around an odd bug of GitHub that their team has been unable to fix for more than a week, the Zettlr update API should now finally find the 4.7.0 update. To update, you can now check for updates from your app again, and Zettlr will offer you to update to 4.7.0.

Apparently there seems to be an issue with the GitHub API, which prevents the internal updater of Zettlr to show the new 4.7.0 update. Until that is fixed, you can just download the corresponding installer from the release page directly and install it manually. Sorry! github.com/Zettlr/Zettl...

Great news — the custom shortcuts implementation just got into the main development branch, meaning it’ll ship with the next update! Stay tuned, it’s not long out! Coming soon with Zettlr 4.7.0

Dear all, if you are on the most recent version of Zettlr, you may face difficulties exporting to PDF using XeLaTeX profiles when including keywords. The reason is a momentary mismatch between Pandoc templates. A workaround and explainer can be found here: github.com/jgm/pandoc/i...

Some of you may have experienced issues with Zettlr's citation key autocomplete stopping to work after the 8.0.3 Zotero update. While we don't know why it happened, we know what happened: Some citation items in the CSL JSON export are missing a citekey, and Zettlr just assumed tha they do.

Hendrik Erz, PhD@hendrik-erz.de

+++ PSA: Zotero, BBT, Zettlr, and the search for the missing citekeys +++ TL;DR: For some reason, when you export (part of) your Zotero library with BetterBibTex, some items may lack a citation key. This appears to affect Zotero 8.0.0 and upwards, maybe just 8.0.3 and upwards.

It's not the end of the world; and exports will continue to work fine. But for good measure, there's now a fix in the codebase that will also report (via logging an error) if there was an item that is affected by this. So to ensure your items are all still proper, please review the logs.

It's time! Today, Zettlr turns 8, and we are proud to deliver the next major update for the app on this special day! Today marks the release day for Zettlr 4.0, a wholly rewritten and revamped version! Read our announcement post and download Zettlr 4.0 now: zettlr.com/post/zettlr-...

A recent feature we just added is Lua filters! The assets manager now exposes the Lua filters for your exports with Pandoc for easy management. Coming with version 4.0.

By popular demand, we have added in Zettlr 4.0 the ability to instantaneously toggle between a raw Markdown source-code editing experience, and a WYSIWYG writing experience. This toggle will be available in the statusbar.

For Zettlr 4.0, we decided to give the Zettelkasten workflow a little glow-up. We have streamlined the settings, and fully embrace the ability to set link labels for any internal link.

For Zettlr 4.0, we have put some extra effort in rewriting the citation parser. Now, your citations will be properly highlighted and detected. This improves performance, user experience, and implements more citation features. Oh, and the citation renderer now properly detects crossrefs!

One of the most-anticipated new features of the next release of Zettlr is a fully-rewritten table editor. No more data loss, easier insertion, and much more support for syntax highlighting, citations, math, and more!

Another new exciting feature of Zettlr 4.0 is a brand-new image and PDF viewer. Now you can cross-reference plots and research literature right within the app.

Nerd time. Zettlr is an open-source writing tool that I've used for years. It's great. Coolest feature: You can hyperlink your notes offline. Check it out.
