Hello #bsky! We are Oliver, Peter and Simeon from #zeitkapsl a European 🇪🇺 alternative for securely storing, sharing, and organizing your precious memories with end-to-end encryption. No ads. No tracking. Just your memories, safe and sound. #E2EE #PrivacyFirst #madeInEU #hostedInEU #zeitkapsl

Google updated its #privacy policy on Oct 16. Gmail, Drive and Photos content may now be used for ads if you connect it to Search via "Personal Intelligence". Opt-in for now. Good moment to check what your photo service can read. On @zeitkapsl.eu photos are end-to-end encrypted. #GooglePhotos

Tomorrow evening, we are attending a very special format of "Netzpolitischer Abend" on the topic of ethical hacking, in the Austrian Parlament. There should be a (cisco webex -.-) live stream as well. netzpolitischerabend.wordpress.com/2026/10/06/e... #netzpat

Digital rights don't defend themselves. 💚 We're proud to support @epicenter.works and their ongoing fight for our digital rights, privacy and freedom online. Net neutrality to encryption and the fight against mass surveillance, their work matters! Why we support them: zeitkapsl.eu/en/articles/...

“Privacy is the power to selectively reveal oneself to the world.” — Eric Hughes, A Cypherpunk’s Manifesto, 1993 Your photos tell your story. You should decide who gets to see it. 🔐 It's #globalencryptionday let's celebrate by with 10% discount for 3 months: ENCRYPT10 #privacy #e2ee #madeineu

⚠️ We updated our privacy policy! ⚠️ Did we scare you there? 🎃 No need to worry, we actually just removed one more third party data processor. After Zammad, we now also replaced Brevo with an in-house solution 🗞️

The user experience of the desktop app was not great, to put it mildly 😅 @simmac.at did an overhaul of the desktop UI to give a bit more guidance and transparency to the user. #degoogle #madeineu #e2ee #privacy

The docs of @zeitkapsl finally got some love: zeitkapsl.eu/en/docs/ Source available here: codeberg.org/zeitkapsl/ze... We plan to translate to german in a few months once we know we covered all relevant parts. #docs #madeineu #degoogle

We love working with students from local universities and schools. Our latest collaboration with FH Burgenland resulted in this lovely new video about zeitkapsl, created by Annika Panusch together with Lara Wilfinger and Alina Loidl. Thank you for the creativity and great work, we love the result!

Time to #UnplugTrump. Why not start with your photo library? #lakeontario #degoogle #unplugbigtech #canada #boycottusa #boycottgoogle

with zeitkapsl v1.28, you can now share referral links to earn free bonus storage directly from your phone. Either send the link via your messenger-app of choice, or show a QR code to your friends to scan. Learn more about referral bonuses in our docs: zeitkapsl.eu/en/docs/guid...

Last week, @cryze.bsky.social, found and reported an issue in the handling of filenames in our mobile apps. Sharing a video from a malicious imported share could lead to app-internal files being overwritten on the mobile apps <v1.27+. Read more in cryzes excellent blog post cryze.at/posts/travel...

If you haven't said hello yet, you can still meet us at our #froscon21 booth this afternoon, there are still some stickers and vouchers (and candy 😄) left #froscon #froscon2026

We have just arrived in Sankt Augustin for FrOSCon 🙌 If you're in or near Bonn, check out #froscon and catch us at our partner booth for some stickers and vouchers, we will be there the whole weekend! froscon.org #froscon2026

A little sneak peek at something we've been working on. 🗺️ A map view is coming to zeitkapsl. Still a work in progress, but we wanted to share an early look. #degoogle #madeineu #photomap

New largest files filter to quickly free up space: on the web app, and on Android v1.25+ and iOS v1.26+ #madeineu #degoogle

Long requested feature for our web app: upload whole folders not just single items. Now it's possible and preserves the existing folder structure and automatically creates folders/albums. The other app already did that, now the web does too. #degoogle #madeineu

You can now invite friends to zeitkapsl. When someone signs up using your referral link, you both get an extra 5 GB of storage at no additional cost, regardless of which paid plan you're on. Trial accounts are excluded. Learn more: zeitkapsl.eu/en/docs/guid...

With v1.24 of the iOS and Android apps, we just added a very often requested feature: With the new Photo Widgets, you can bring random memories to your homescreen 🎉 You can choose between your entire gallery, you favorited photos or the "On This Day" filter zeitkapsl.eu/en/docs/guid...

We're proud to support this year's @FrOSCon@bonn.social as a sponsor. If you're attending, come by our booth and say hello. We also bring some stickers an vouchers :) Looking forward to seeing you in Sankt Augustin. #FrosCon #DigitalSovereignty #zeitkapsl #degoogle #madeineu

Mega Erfolg 🎉! Herzlichen Dank für Alles. Wir freuen uns schon auf den Livestream 😂 @epicenter_works@chaos.social kann man übrigens ganz einfach unterstützen: epicenter.works/unterstuetzung

🇪🇺 Chat Control Update 🇪🇺 Yesterday the EU institutions met & were in discussion, but as of now no final agreement has been met regarding the scanning on content. Say NO TO CHAT CONTROL & NO TO SURVEILLANCE. 😡 Make your voices heard & contact your MEPs now objecting to this 👉 fightchatcontrol.eu

Exactly why we started 3 years ago. The US Cloud ACT makes any EU legislation like GDPR void.

The past few weeks have been a bit quiet from our end. We finally finished a huge refactoring of the Android/iOS apps that ultimately got rid of >30k lines of code. We migrated all viewmodel logic into the shared #go core allowing us way more code sharing while still offering native UI/UX. #oss

Tausende Kinderfotos. Gestohlen.

Privacy policies usually only get longer and longer. Ours just got shorter. We have replaced two external data processors with internal solutions. Fewer third parties, less complexity, more control. zeitkapsl.eu/en/privacy/ #privacy #gdpr #degoogle #madeineu

Some of the @zeitkapsl team will be in #brussels the upcoming week (wednesday to sunday). If someone is up for a coffee/tea/drink, we would be happy to connect locally 🙂

#Degoogled Photos? Yes, it's possible. ✅🏞️ The Big Tech does not need to scan & have access to your pictures & videos 👉 use a Google Photos alternative instead. Find out which open source photo storage we'd recommend: tuta.com/blog/google-...  #GooglePhotos #DeGoogle

While you can sort albums for a while now in the web app, they were not sortable in our iOS and Android apps. In the upcoming zeitkapsl 1.18 release, you can now sort by name, creation date, last modified and number of media items. #e2ee #unplugbigtech #did

Thank you for the shout-out @mariozechner.at <3

zeitkapsl security audit completed. Your memories were never accessible to attackers: end-to-end encryption works as designed. An independent security firm found 16 issues; 12 were fixed immediately and re-verified. The full report is now public. zeitkapsl.eu/en/articles/... #degoogle #madeineu

Our storage and compute costs just went up ~35%. It cuts directly into the margin we use to build and improve #zeitkapsl We could pass that on. Instead: Inhousing our storage layer Gradually replacing Hetzner and Backblaze Best case: No price increase, stronger resilience, and faster uploads. 🤞

Currently following the upload progress, especially on initial library imports on the mobile apps was a bit intransparent. With the next update, there is a nice upload progress view on the grid as well as in the settings page. #didit #degoogle

And especially for longer videos you can now also follow the upload progress on the main grid view

With the upcoming release of the Android (v 1.15.5) and iOS (v1.15.6) apps we have made it easier to add content to albums. You can now also directly add photos from the album view. Adding photos from the main grid still works as well of course. Now it works both ways #degoogle #googlephotos

Today is again #did. Time to find a #europeanalternative to #googlephotos or #icloud and migrate your data somewhere safe. Never settle for less than #e2ee, native apps on android/ios and easy sharing with friends/family in original quality. That's why we built #zeitkapsl. #didit #degoogle
