I occasionally think about how the Backrooms is a cool concept but @tkingfisher.com has done the best takes on it I've seen with The Hollow Places and her Gearworld... vignettes? All the art & blog posts (I would dearly love to see Heinrich & co's notes & etc. compiled into some kind of art book)

Does it annoy anyone else that bomb bay doors and Bombay windows are entirely unrelated things

It's becoming really obvious to me that we're happily building LLM Skynet to wipe ourselves out. And it really bugs me that we're not even going to leave behind some real AI that will remember us. We're doing it all with Temu's Basilisk. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/w...

nytimes.comA Drone Killed Three Ukrainians. It Was Guided Entirely by A.I.An attack by what Ukrainian officials said was a Russian drone with an Nvidia chip presages a dystopian future of weaponry untethered to humans.

@villainwasright.bsky.social for the record you are correct, the kink community does NOT like those movies. I have actually attended an MST3K-style hate-watch of the first one. Secretary is better, but still not a good representation. It's also intentionally hilarious. Try that one.

To be clear. If "take me home, country roads" is your song, I'm not judging you for being country or redneck or anything like that. I'm judging you for being *boring*.

@villainwasright.bsky.social so...I was 9 when the original he-man movie came out. Let me tell you, this was the first movie I can remember that I saw the trailer on TV and went "... That... Is so different from the thing I like that I have no interest in watching it"

It took several minutes before it was revealed he'd actually day said "comedian". And as my favorite set of Canadian comedians, I thought you should know this

@howardtayler.bsky.social so this just happened. My girlfriend goes "so that cayenne pepper we used the other night?" Me: "yeah?" Her: "it's not cayenne pepper" Me: "what?" Her: "yeah. It says it's Crimson Drake Powder, it *may* contain cayenne." Me, dying laughing, shows her the other bottles.

So thank you for that. Totally made my night. Aside from the fact that we now have an extra bottle of cayenne.

So annoyed. Trying to buy a bike for my kid and Guardian has bought so much ad space that I can't really find any actual discussion about bikes for bigger kids

My son expressed interest in steampunk tonight. I was so excited to show him cool steampunk art... But all I could find was AI crap. Thanks, tech bros, for ruining everything

@tkingfisher.com so I found a wiki for the world of the white rat... And now I'm curious if the Forge God and the Sainted Smith are related somehow or maybe even the same person. RAFO? Yes? No? "I refuse to answer on the grounds that I refuse to constrain myself in some way"?

@tkingfisher.com "from the Obama administration" huh that's an odd way to measure that length of "That moon colony up there" Oh.... Huh. That is.... Interesting and I'm still not sure if it's in any way relevant to the story but it really does add a bit to the overall surreal quality

Me: "I don't know, buddy, it's a graphic novel type thing, those aren't usually fun to read out loud..." Him: 'PLEASE??' Me: "okay, let's give this a shot and see" Half the book and far later than is proper for a school night I finally had to call it for the night.

Not only is this a great read, and an excellent retelling, it is *so much fun* to declaim an epic poem to your child as a bedtime story

@tkingfisher.com I saw your name in Nov. Amazon First Reads email & clicked "read now" so fast I didn't process that it was a book I'd already pre-ordered & that in doing so it cancelled said pre-order. I know preorders are important for book "placement", how does the first-reads thing work w/that?

I was gonna come on here and complain I can't buy tickets to the Renfaire this year because they sold out too fast but then I read all the other things happening and I guess that doesn't really even rate

@wilwheaton.net y'know.... There was a period where I kinda lost track of what you were doing, between the end of tabletop and finding bluesky. And frankly, that was a shame and I forgot how much I like you. Glad to have found you again.
