I think Dark Matter Season 2 is probably the best piece of art on the dangers of technology right now. A lot of people watched the first season, but I’ve barely seen anyone discussing the second one. It no longer follows the book, although Blake Crouch helped write S2.

It becomes an infinite story of unintended consequences since Leighton can’t possibly judge all those side effects, yet time and time again he pushes the technology forward. I wish more technology criticism was this smart. If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend it.

It’s hard to follow at times. Every main character who went into the box has infinite copies, and they all look the same. Thank you Apple TV.

Jason Dessen and his family are just trying to fix their lives and find a place to live. Leighton is rebuilding Velocity Labs across worlds. Despite everything that happened, despite entire worlds destroyed because of the box, he still wants to push forward. And he has bright ideas.

He uses the box to deliver vaccines and move technologies from one world to another. But the people using it also carry diseases into other worlds.

Most movies, TV series, and even books don’t. From Silo to The Social Network Part II, they give us basic, one-dimensional characters, rewrite history, and serve up cartoonish evil billionaires and tech oligarchs you’re meant to laugh at. Dark Matter does it right.

The first season was centered on the box, a technology that lets you travel to other versions of your reality. In season two, everything unravels around it as copies of people who passed through try to figure out what they want.

And it’s a much better way to criticize technology. I’m a techno-optimist. But it’s the nature of art to discuss these things and raise questions. Unfortunately, most of the art I’ve seen on the topic is just lazy. You have to earn the right to criticize.

This is the level of most "experts" on TV. Why? Because the assistant producer ends up frantically messaging anyone they know 3 hours before the recording to find at least someone credentialed enough that they wouldn't be ashamed to put on the screen.

Jev is such a great tool that makes it easy to solve age-old computer problems. It now runs a whole bunch of activities in Horus and it still costs <$2 per month. For example: catching your company's and competitors' media coverage. A substring search alone isn't enough.

Especially if the brand name is just a common noun. So we have Jev look at the title and text to decide if it's actually a story about the company or something else. And it works perfectly.

Can't understand why Netflix reported the slowest revenue growth in history They have no hits other than Stranger Things, their median quality is mid and they keep raising prices Such a mystery

The fact that you can do something doesn't necessarily mean that you should. Sometimes people defend it with "others will build this anyway". There are many AI detectors online. Pangram is the best one. So their humanizers are also quite bad.

We're so early with AI, especially on desktop machines and phones. Needed to apply for a UK visa and they want your travel history for many years prior. Recalled that I saved the filled in doc from the last time. Can't remember how or where. So I just asked Claude to find it.

It figured possible dates, formats (HTML or PDF) and went looking, checking each possible file. Now imagine the same functionality built into your OS. That's how it should work, obviously.

one thing many people unfortunately don't get about their career how nice it is to work with you and be around you is just as important as your skills and professionalism

Super intelligence is raw milk. Let me explain. In the current memetic battlefront, it's absolutely irrelevant what you actually believe. It's all about signaling.

Once a meme emerges, you get a higher status within a left/right group by committing to the bit regardless of reason or your own belief. The crazier, the better. This explains everything from the certain right-wing salutes certain people did in 2024 to how we call AI.
