Turns out replying on Twitter, talking to people, and keeping conversations going is my way out of this lead-hunting rut. Apparently clients don't find you by staring at your own portfolio.

Mixing a record and shipping a feature share the same trap: the last 5% eats the most time and nobody hears it but you. At some point you print the master. Clients feel the difference between finished and fiddled with.

Good old DHH, he knows how to make me feel great about AI. Meanwhile X keeps kindly informing me my career ended last Tuesday. https://world.hey.com/dhh/endless-execution-4157e065

Hoping this plus my new daily workout gives me the energy to succeed (day two of the workout, so far the energy has gone entirely into the workout) @levelsio

Building something real ALWAYS takes longer than you think! We all have "that client" in our head - the one who wants it fast, cheap, and perfect. The reality: the systems that actually serve organisations well don't come from shortcuts.

That might be 10 hard conversations about scope. That might be 10 weeks of careful architecture. That might be 10 rounds of testing nobody sees. Good software is built on the other side of that patience.

It's hard to push back on bad briefs. It's hard to build things properly when quick fixes exist. It's hard to care this much about someone else's platform. But it's harder to watch something fail because nobody did the work. Choose the longer road ❤️

That old system you've written off as impossible to use? It might be, but I bet the underlying data and resources could be pulled into a futuristic, reliable web application.

Are you still coding manually? I am. (Yes, with these two vintage hands.) Can you actually enjoy just watching agents do it for you? I don't. It feels like watching someone else eat my lunch. OK, sometimes its fun to be helped. But I can't let go of coding completely!

Finding the right software solution is still one of the most draining parts of running a growing organisation - especially when you've outgrown what you started with. Here are a few tools and approaches I point people toward, including Bespoke Portals, that can genuinely help.

#4 If you have customers who use your current systems, ask them! Customers can be the number one best way to unearth possibilities to improve your organisation!

#5 Finally, try making a short screen share recording using your current system. The act of sharing this will immediately expose problems that you 'mask' every day using it.

#2 Ask others what their frustrations are. You might hear points that were unexpected. Talking to your peers who also use your outdated system will generate excitement about the possibilities.

#1 Start with your problems. Your frustrations. The things that p***s you off every day! Don't try to come up with solutions yet. I can help with solutions later - but hearing problems first is the perfect start.

A few glimpses of a site I designed and built last year for a Nursery. Soft as a nap-time blanket, warm as afternoon light, a small space where little ones can grow. Did I hit the brief?

I used to think clients who wanted to "own their data" were being overly cautious. I was wrong. They were right. So much of what we hand to third-party platforms is completely out of our control.

People think a project is "done" when it goes live but personally I think a project is done when someone logs in six months later and realizes they've forgotten what the old system even felt like 🎉

“The end result, which is entirely bespoke to us and replaced a very old system, has revolutionised our workflows, is intuitive and therefore easy to train new users on.” - Catherine Eccles

Just set up a Laravel Cloud application for the first time! Laravel + Postgres + Inertia + Vue JS After a few tiny tweaks to my codebase, I'm up and running! The experience using laravel cloud is awesome!

This looks like fun 😎

I feel like I have two batteries in me. When I code, it charges the social battery. And when I do social, it charges my coding battery. Got to swap them periodically to hold up the efficiency.

Having a great experience using @spatie.be 's 'laravel-data' package to auto generate typescript types. After a little setting up, my Inertia Vue front end has full type knowledge of my models including pagination types etc.

AHH that feeling of starting a new laravel project. 50+ tables planned in the database. Excited for the chance to have all templating in Vue thanks to Inertia. First step, plan all the schema!

Hey! If you need someone to properly handle your website project hit me up! I've been doing this for 14+ years and know what it takes to complete and finish a project to go live!

Looks like there is a good way to develop mobile apps using Nuxt! 😀

Every day I want to go film a video of myself talking about my business. But my business always seems to take first place and the video gets pushed to one side! Next week I'm making it happen! 📹

Woah! Best new laravel feature discovery came to me today, from Povilas Korop: the `fluent()` or `data_get()` helpers to access properties inside objects / arrays where you might not know the type of the data and just want to `use.dot.notation` to get to some nested property.

Hey everybody! I'm a full stack Laravel / TS / Vue developer! Currently working on some video content to promote my tiny web agency. Here's a sneak peek of the picture I have achieved so far with my camera setup...

Really feeling that the final 10% of the project takes as long as the first 90%. The last bit is always the toughest, especially on slightly larger-sized projects? #thefinishline
