I often wonder how many of these texts are from politicians impersonating their opponents to make them look bad, because boy howdy is it effective.
A Sept. national survey by telecomm company NumberBarn, which screened 1,000 adults, found 72% of people who replied STOP to a political text message kept getting political messages after. Nearly half said getting too many calls or texts made them view that candidate less favorably.

The 2nd one's great because parents can already see what gets taught in each of their kids' classes if they could be assed to read the syllabi their kids get at the start of each schoolyear. Also, the headless student and multiple Yosemite Sams (or is it Yosemites Sam?) are the cherries on top.

Switching from Flock to Axon isn't a solution. As EFF's @maassive.bsky.social told KOLO ABC7 Reno, "People don't want mass surveillance."
NIMBYs coating their NIMBYist obstructionism in a veneer of faux-progressivism will never not infuriate me. Like this is shit straight out of the Simple Sabotage Field Manual, and yet we wonder why every American infrastructure project takes so much more time and money than the rest of the world.
your strategy of actually solving the issue pales in comparison to my strategy of having meetings about it. fuck you!
Stargate thankfully bucked that trend somewhat by making the token academic an Egyptologist who's also inexplicably the sexiest being on not just one but two planets.
all academics in Hollywood are either physicists who talk about 'quantum', English professors with drinking problems who fuck their students, historians who find Dracula or something, or biologists who unleash plagues.
Apparently I'm the #2 user of the word “ruralites”, and the #1 user of the name of my local power company. Fascinating.
So, I made this. Apparently I write long posts here.
The article's right that Twitter being owned by a scumbag demonstrably ain't enough of a reason for most people to switch away from it. They need a place worth switching to. That *could* be Bluesky if we'd just be normal about things instead of… whatever the hell's going on in this post's replies.
I'm sure this one won't make anyone angry.
For legal reasons I cannot recommend using the information in this video to build a long-range acoustic device and aim it directly at that neighbor's bedroom.
Fire coming out of a puddle of mud is horrifying and weird and awesome.
⚒️🧪 The Wandan mud volcano in southern Taiwan had a minor eruption starting around 3am today at vents near the mud volcano temple. It last erupted in July 2026 and has had numerous small eruptions in the last few years. Video courtesy of my friend 張寶惠, the temple caretaker.
Pet Sematary. My family buried our fair share of pets on the acres surrounding our house when I was growing up (multiple cats, multiple dogs, and a horse). The possibility that they could come back to life and be evil didn't sit well with child-me.
In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

Excellent article. There really is no getting around that global beef production needs to decrease (both overall and per-capita), and while regenerative grazing is better than not doing that, most of its benefit is from reducing that production, not making current production somehow sustainable.
The idea that "regenerative" grazing is a climate solution has really taken hold in some quarters. But the science is clear: It doesn't work. Methane and land-use emissions just overwhelm any soil carbon benefits. Here's a great piece by @nicholasdcarter.bsky.social drawdown.org/insights/eig...
