Hurricane Trudy is now rapidly intensifying in the East Pacific and will become a major hurricane soon. Champi has been named in the West Pacific and will become a powerful typhoon near the end of the weekend.
Oklahoma and Texas have received much needed rainfall this week, with 4-8 inches falling in the last 48h across large swaths of the state. This has also caused scattered flooding, but it also should move out with time today.
Hurricane Simon and TS Trudy continue to make things look tangled in the East Pacific. 29W in the West Pacific will likely become a powerful typhoon by the end of this weekend/start of next week.
A substantial flooding risk is present and ongoing today in central Oklahoma, where >10 inches of rain have fallen locally, and that amount will increase through the day today. Some severe weather is also possible.
(Note: I said earlier Isaias may have been a Category 4 hurricane based on flight-level wind data. It doesn't appear these winds made it to the surface, but intense wind gusts >115mph remain possible.)
The eyewall of what is now Category 2 Hurricane Isaias is moving onshore! A couple gusts >100mph have been recorded, and a flash flood emergency including Eglin AFB has been issued. #Isaias has started weakening quickly from it's jet interaction. #HurricaneIsaias
UPDATE: EXTREME WIND WARNING for Florida coastline from Isaias (outlined in purple/black) TAKE SHELTER NOW! #Isaias #HurricaneIsaias
Conditions are deteriorating rapidly in the Florida Panhandle as Hurricane Isaias' eyewall is imminent. Flooding has begun, most notably around Panama City. Many gusts in the 50-60mph range already. #Isaias #HurricaneIsaias
This is also completely unrelated, but it appears that an extremely intense Magnitude 8 earthquake has occurred in Panama. (Source: USGS)
Recent hurricane hunter data suggests Hurricane Isaias may have intensified into a Category 4 this afternoon. Max wind speeds at 700mb were 136kt (~120kt/140mph at surface). A Tornado Watch has also been issued as tropical supercells come onshore today. #Isaias #HurricaneIsaias
The timing of #Isaias beginning extratropical transition has also trended slightly later, so the storm may make landfall closer to peak intensity. Some further strengthening is possible. A dangerous hurricane is landfalling this evening. #HurricaneIsaias
Isaias has become a Category 3 Major Hurricane this morning on it's final approach to landfall. The pressure is dropping pretty quickly according to recon data, and VHTs have continued to go up on both sides of the eyewall. #Isaias #HurricaneIsaias
This shows the google trend better. (From TC-ATLAS) The median now is at category 4 intensity, and all hurricane models now make it at least a high end category 3 hurricane tonight into tomorrow morning. The risk of destructive winds from #Isaias is increasing.
Hurricane Isaias has been slowly strengthening today, but a couple signs have showed up that suggests the pace is picking up now or imminently. Mainly that models have shear being minimized from now into tonight, and an uptrend in intensity from the google and hurricane models.
Meanwhile, Rachel is setting up to do something similar (but this time on the West Coast). Simon is also going to become a major hurricane that threatens parts of the Mexico coastline. Lot of moving parts at the moment!
The good news is this will provide drought alleviating rain for much of the Eastern U.S. The bad news is, about nothing else about this is pleasant. Damaging wind gusts and several tornadoes will be possible.

#Isaias became a hurricane last night and has strengthened a bit more since then. The wind field of Hurricane Isaias has also started broadening out. Isaias will move inland at a fast pace, so impacts will extend pretty far inland as a result.
UPDATE: Watches have been issued along the Gulf Coast, including Mobile AL, ahead of Isaias. #Isaias has begun strengthening this morning according to air force recon data.
Most guidance now favors #Isaias becoming a hurricane soon, and NHC now has it on the edge of becoming a major hurricane, then with gradual weakening before landfall.

Tropical Storm Isaias has picked up the pace this morning, with intense convection near the center spreading outwards; rapid intensification could be starting soon. The air force is about to investigate.
