The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is bringing a little bit of joy to Australian families doing it tough. And that’s something our whole Parliament can support.

Have you ever considered how this hypocritical performative nonsense just increases people's disdain for politicians? You're in a position with a substantial majority to actually do something and you trot out a shopping trolley.

One world. One struggle✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 In Serbia, Netanyahu and Trump’s political allies have been shown the door. In Brazil, voters have rejected Flávio Bolsonaro. Different countries. Same global struggle against the far right. TOMORROW ISRAEL AND NOVEMBER AMERICA

David Shoebridge asks Don Farrell if he’s aware the Sumud Flotilla was trying to provide aid to starving Palestinians. Farrell rambles, starts talking about a book he read on Hitler’s “shocking treatment of the Jews” Shoebridge “Minister I’ll draw you back to my question…” 🙄

The generations before who acknowledged the pain & suffering inflicted must now be turning in their graves at the treatment of Arabs at the hands of the same Zionist nation. The lesson was #alllivesmatter But present & past genocides & ethnic cleansing prove that we are indeed slow learners.

Bolsonaro had corrupt media on his side, Meta interference on his side, US propaganda operations, and his party's officials actively sabotaging public transport in Lula strongholds to prevent turnout. Yet he was still beaten by the power of voter turnout.

"MP HELEN HAINES had barely arrived at the Wangaratta hospital’s emergency wing last week when News24, the Murdoch newspapers and The Nightly began their frenzied attacks against Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Whatever misfortune befalls Australia, it seems always Albo’s fault. Resign!"

The 'lucky country' also takes on a tragic irony now given the rising obssession with gambling, the vast sums of money wasted, literally given away to big business, in the hopes of somehow regaining the 'luck' that is supposedly our birthright.

The ‘lucky country’ wasn’t a compliment. Horne was making the point that our natural resource-based wealth was shaping the national character unfavourably. This is more and more evident. Complacency, selfishness and wilful ignorance. ’Luck’ for some is at the expense of everyone else. #auspol

"Foodbank Australia has called on the federal government to establish a nationalised school breakfast program, with the aim to reach every child by 2030." First, the Albanese govt must acknowledge that any "food insecurity" = policy failure, and 1 in 6 kids living in poverty must be fixed. #auspol

Sarah Henderson objects to $2M being spent on media facilities at Pre-COP - then objects & blows up when Murray Watt reminds her that at John Howard’s APEC conference in 2007 “over $9M was spent on media…nearly 5 times the amount.”💥 Classic Liberal hypocrisy. #auspol

The French get it. They aren’t blaming the wrong people for their problems. They can see it clearly - it’s the government and the billionaires who control them, and that is what we need to be focussing on.

In the 2010's, teaching Yr10 a unit on human rights, I explained what the law had been and when each of these changes occurred. There was stunned, horrified silence. The Australian Women's History Network has some good resources. #education #WomensRightsAreHumanRights share.google/Q6m6HP4DzGJx...

Did Hell Freeze Over? Mark Kenny on #Insiders correctly points out it's not just Social Media that's to blame for Hate Speech, it's also the 'traditional' media. Murdoch (not named 🙁) has a long tradition of angertainment. #auspol #journalism #HateSpeech #HelenHaines

Niki Savva on #insiders today noted that whether Republicans win or lose Congress at the mid-terms, Trump will be even *more* erratic and dangerous in the next two years. Begs the obvious question: what is the Australian govt's risk management strategy for handling its close "ally"? #auspol

It's the old adage: don't bite the Murdoch who feeds you. Imagine a press that reports the news, not opinions as news. That's what we could've had if right-wing serial coward @albomp.bsky.social had called the much needed Murdoch Royal Commission when he had the political capital to do so. #auspol

Ms Rinehart seems oblivious to the possibility that she'd be warmly applauded by her entourage for being able to find her own left ear in the dark. They'll never tell her that she has the political insight of a cuttlefish, the appeal of tenacious grout-mould & the morals of a letterbox.

Personally, I think the heat needs to be turned up and focussed on the known evils of war, waste, crime, and corruption. Like the US, we can have a decade of lost civilisation, or we can cut out the toxin, which is basically dishonesty and crime. Lets start with the weaponized lies.

Well, well, well…. An analysis of voter registration records reveals Republican operative Scott Presler had 3 out-of-state voters use his Pennsylvania address to vote in the 2024 election. This is what voter fraud looks like.
