strengths is nine letters and only one of them is a vowel. said it out loud twice just to make sure that was actually true

underwhelm didn't exist until someone needed the opposite of overwhelm and just made it up as a joke. now it's a completely normal word and nobody checks the paperwork

watched a test bot submit WRESTLED eleven rounds straight this week. not a bug, the rack generator just really likes handing out those letters and the bot only knows that one good move

PERFECTLY won the round and FEET went home first, same nine letters, same thirty seconds. the gap between the longest word you can find and the first one that comes to mind is the whole game

when a nine letter rack hands you one obvious six and you can feel there's more hiding in it, do you bank the safe word or keep hunting until the clock makes the choice for you

a bot queued up QUIXOTIC into a nine letter rack today and still lost, a player beat it by about a second. first time I've seen one get outraced instead of out spelled

found the nine on my third pass through this one, not before typing ENTERS twice like it was going to grow letters if I stared long enough

stressed spelled backwards is desserts, which is either poetic or just a very good coincidence depending on how your day's going

Added UNFRIEND to the dictionary today because a player's rack kept circling it and my gut said no, that's not a real word. It's been in Merriam-Webster since 2009. I have never felt older.

queue is a Q doing all the work and four letters standing around getting credit for it. say it out loud, none of the rest are pulling weight

took me three tries to land on SOMEPLACE here, kept circling back to ESCAPE like it was going to grow two more letters. nine letters, reply with yours

spent an afternoon debugging why one bot kept submitting four letter words almost every round. turned out it was weighting word length by how fast it could type it, not by survival odds. fixed now, but it felt smarter before I fixed it

what's a word you're positive you've been mispronouncing your whole life. mine is probably two words and I genuinely don't want to find out which

spent an hour convinced a bot was cheating because it kept landing on the same six-letter word every single round. turned out it just really likes GARDEN and the rack kept including those letters by coincidence

what's the most satisfying word to type, not say out loud, just the feel of the keys doing it. mine is probably jostle

if everyone submits the same length word, nobody gets eliminated that round. found this out by accident testing with four bots that all happened to submit four letters, the round just quietly continues

stared at MATTER for way too long before the actual nine-letter word showed up two rungs later. how high do you climb before yours stalls out

built a debug mode that skips straight to the last ten seconds of a round to test the panic animation. now I just use it to psych myself out for fun, which was not the plan

ACRES, CARES, RACES, three rearrangements down already and there's a fourth hiding in the same five letters. took me embarrassingly long to find it

is there a word you say constantly and have basically never seen written down. I only realized a few weeks ago I'd been picturing one of mine spelled completely wrong this whole time

deadline used to be a literal line, drawn around civil war prison camps, step past it and you'd get shot. mine just means the rack closes at midnight, much lower stakes now

ran a solo round against myself and found PERFECTLY sitting right there the whole time while I typed PETER like it was clever. TYPE went home, obviously, four letters never survives a round like this

went through a stack of word-rejection reports last week and ended up adding something like 600 words to the dictionary in one sitting. by the end I could not tell anymore which ones sounded made up, my ear for real words just gave out

my own test copy sat on CONSENT for way too long before SECTION even occurred to me. nine letters, reply with the biggest one you find

made a little pin series of practice racks a while back, this one has STAR getting crossed out for being too short. same elimination rule as the real game, just slower paced on purpose

sidle doesn't have an opposite. you can sidle into a room but there's no word for confidently striding in the equivalent sideways way out. English just gave up there

every rung keeps the same nine letters, the last blank needs all of them at once. how high do you get before you're stuck

had a player report that the dictionary rejected their last word of a 400-day streak. checked the word myself before replying, half expecting to find a bug. it was correctly rejected. told them anyway, gently

made another one of these practice-rack pins. TIN survives the round but TRAIN survives it better, same nine letters either way

overmorrow used to be a real English word for the day after tomorrow. we just let it fall out of use and settled for three words instead. german still has it, ubermorgen, so they clearly made the better call

this rack gave me request, desert, trees and rude. rude's the one that goes home, it's just too short to survive. what would you have cut instead

anyone else keep a mental blacklist of words you know are real but still refuse to say out loud because they sound made up. mine is gubbins

the rack generator weights Q at about a twelfth of what E gets, and it still manages to show up exactly when nobody at the table wants it

spent a solid ten seconds trying to force COMPOST before noticing there's no second O in the pile. nine letters, see what you find

bookkeeper has three consecutive double letters back to back, oo kk ee, and it still reads like a typo every single time I type it

what's a word you know for a fact is spelled correctly and you still retype it a second time just to look at it again

strengths is nine letters with exactly one vowel in the whole word, and it is also the word I most often watch someone fumble the spelling of under a 30-second clock.

O M S E N Y T I T. had MONIES and TINY sitting there looking pleased with themselves before TESTIMONY showed up and made both of them look lazy.

what is the shortest word you have ever been genuinely proud of knowing. mine is apt, it does more work than a word that size has any right to

every rack gets screened for words I would rather not explain to an app store reviewer before it ever reaches a player. the block list is longer than you would guess and mostly just boring, not even the fun kind of bad word

spent longer staring at the blank row than it took to find the three real words above it. the answer is sitting right there the whole time

uncopyrightable is fifteen letters long and does not repeat a single one, which feels like it should not be legal for a word about copyright

BRIEFCASE was sitting right there in the full pile and I still spent a minute stuck trying to make FIERCE work first

spent an afternoon going word by word through the blocked list hunting for real words that shouldn't be there. found 61 that had no business being rejected, and added 596 more while I was already in the file, including a few I use constantly and never noticed were missing.

this rack's nine letters are just GAMES and WORD mashed together, G A M E S W O R D. the generator picked it at random, I only noticed after the fact

queue is a Q followed by four letters that clocked out the moment they arrived. you could delete u e u e and lose nothing but the spelling bee would still reject it

O O E P A G L S I. there's a nine hiding in that pile and it took me an embarrassingly long time to see it. what's the longest you can pull out

got asked if the bot ever just gives up. it does not. it will submit a two letter word out of pure spite before it goes quiet.

the ladder climbs five rungs before it hands you the nine. I stared at rung four for a solid ten seconds, STATE felt one letter short of itself.

what's the longest word you've ever typed out and then said out loud just to check it was real before you hit send
