A significant victory for Myanmar's civil society! 👏 Human rights institutions must be independent, accountable and representative of the communities they serve. We welcome this important step towards justice and accountability for all communities in Myanmar.

Remembrance must go beyond looking back. It must also mean recognizing the violence that continues today, standing with Rohingya communities, and demanding justice, protection, accountability, and the right to return home safely and with dignity.

The Rohingya genocide is not only a chapter of the past. Its consequences and the conditions enabling further atrocities remain present. Swipe through the slides to learn more about the crimes Rohingya continue to face today. #RohingyaGenocideRemembranceDay #JusticeForRohingya #StandWithRohingya

Today, Rohingya communities continue to face grave abuses amid the conflict in Rakhine State, including killings, forced displacement, arbitrary detention, forced recruitment, destruction of villages, and other serious violations committed by both the Arakan Army and the Myanmar military junta.

We stand with #Rohingya today on the 9th anniversary of their genocide. Rohingya continue to endure systematic persecution, discrimination, and dire humanitarian conditions. The international community must not abandon them. Justice and accountability remain urgent.

📄 STATEMENT: Nine years after the 2017 genocide, the Rohingya are still facing persecution, displacement, and impunity. We call for urgent protection, humanitarian support, and accountability for ongoing crimes against the #Rohingya. 🔗 womenspeacenetwork.org/publications

The 2017 genocide did not begin overnight. For decades, Rohingya were systematically stripped of citizenship, identity, freedom of movement, and belonging through discriminatory laws, military operations, forced displacement, and persecution.

From the 1978 mass exodus to the 1982 Citizenship Law, the violence of 2012 and 2016, and ultimately the 2017 genocidal operations—these events reveal a long pattern of exclusion that continues to demand justice and accountability.
