Likewise for yesterday’s marchers in Paris, and Lyon, and elsewhere. Of course there’s no point in looking closely at the actual events of 1792, except to note that the Prussian general’s ultimate decision before the revolutionary’s revolve was:

Yesterday’s marches were the Valmy moment—or could be read that way. The appropriate point of reference is the Battle of Valmy, on September 22, 1792, when inexperienced French troops supposedly stopped a Prussian advance by the simple expedient of not folding under fire.

Liberty on the Barricades [Discuss] The prestigious École du Louvre, one of the major elite educational institutions in France, dedicated to the formation of a cadre of art historians, has gone on strike. Could art critics be next? Dream on.

A Fable of AI At the time when Braque and Picasso were producing their Cubist collages (moving from Analytic to Synthetic), a sycophantic hanger-on noticed they were both spending an inordinate amount of time duplicating the patterns of wallpaper.

In the hopes of ingratiating himself, the sycophant (a human AI, if you will), brought them a pattern comb, an instrument that would allow the user to duplicate wallpaper patterns with ease and speed.

When the fawning wannabe next visited the studio, he found that the two artists had taken the comb and glued it to the canvas. If my meaning seems obscure, I suggest you ask AI for assistance.

Actually, there's been a fantastic body for a while that's only coming into its own. I'm referring to August Aichhorn, whose "Wayward Youth" [Verwahrloste Jugend] appeared in 1925; and his colleague, Anna Freud, whose writings are only now coming into their own.

It's telling that in the run up to the local elections on Thursday, there are suddenly a large number of Starmerite sleeper accounts (some bots, some phone farms) crawling out of the woodwork. And yet, the Labour Party still officially has no formal presence on Bluesky.
