I’m so used to having the days between Christmas and new years off work, that I forgot to check with my new company if that was the case. A mild panic late this morning logging in to find out that I am indeed off work this week

Why do smoke and carbon monoxide alarms wait until it’s 4am to beep constantly and let you know their batteries are dying.

Sunday afternoon. Kids are out. Eagles / Jags game on. Baking a lasagna. Oh and finally migrating my @tangled.org knot to the shiny Knot2.

Wild how much our data is used on devices. Googled the breed of dog I had when I was a kid yesterday to show my wife. Today the sub Reddit for that breed of dog was on my timeline. I shouldn’t be shocked but damn is it annoying

Could I have your attention please. It’s time for the monthly Girl Talk listen. Now play your part! 🎧

I noticed this behaviour when I was implementing an appview and being an absolute demon, I took a different approach and returned 2 pages of content in one page 😈 Didn’t work though.

One trick to save 32% of the load on the For You feed: The Bluesky client fetches pages of 30 posts from the feed service. But almost always it preloads the N+1 page right after it fetches page N. That is, the request for page #2 comes within a second of page #1.

The docs for this is chefs kiss!

Hi protocol friends! I've been cooking up a Very Large PDS (vlpds) implementation capable of scaling up to billions of accounts and down to just one. It uses Object Storage as its only state, supports HA operation, live scaling up and down, is feature-complete with the reference PDS, and is FOSS.

Need a new monitor as my widescreen is dying 😔 Are 27inch 4k a pain to use with macOS in terms of scaling? I don’t want things stupid big or small, and I’ve read it scales to 2k size but pixel crispness of 4k. Is it usable though for coding daily? So tempted by the BenQ 3:2 coding series 👀

For me it’s been long enough that even if it was my fuck up, I don’t blame myself.

The trouble with running my own PDS software is that whenever I get Bluesky errors my first thought is to blame myself

LinkedIn really is a chore to look at these days. I’d drop it so quickly if I could though like I’ve done other social media apps, but this one has actually been useful for my career (un)fortunately

Halfway through watching The Last House on Netflix and it got me thinking. If all of a sudden you and anyone else with you, couldn’t leave your house, realistically how long could you survive 🤔

The /account panel on a PDS should allow the user to configure their 2FA settings

How did ******* do this? They really do stop your ******* password from being posted 😲

did you know that bluesky doesn’t let you post your password ? watch: *************

Had my head deep in some Rust code getting image embeds to work in my Appview. What’s the Apple News? tldr me!

Didn’t have a Nintendo64 as a kid. Had a PlayStation and GameBoy(s). Played and loved all the GameBoy Zeldas and played a little of Ocarina of Time at a friends once. The trailer for the remake has me absolutely psyched though!

Spent a couple days wrestling Rusts memory management but I finally got quote post embedding working 🥲 Need to attempt some of the other embed types next and then I should probably tidy up the code because it looks like a bomb site right now.

There’s a fly in our house that I can’t get rid of and I’ve been trying for 2 days now. I feel like Walt in that Breaking Bad episode.

Ohhhh I got reposts working. Nothing like sleeping on a problem and then fixing it straight away at 6am 😂 Next up, it’s time to attempt post embedding. This one looks tough

Me fighting Rusts memory management: Urgh it’s complaining about borrowing or the life of a variable…. .clone() Problem solved.

Two weeks till we land in Lisbon for Git Merge and JJ Day by @gitbutler.com with Team Tangled 🛬 Come say hi to us at our stand, grab a sticker or t-shirt while at it, and join our unconference-style session on Friday to yap about… Hold on…

Thought I’d give xrpc/app.bsky.feed.getTimeline a go this evening. It returns results when hit the endpoint with a curl, but the Bluesky app doesn’t load a timeline 😔 Wonder if there’s another endpoint the timeline feed is calling 🤔 Anyway, I need sleep. New blog post tomorrow on progress

Tailscale is getting easier to build with and build on. Embed Tailscale into apps, create tailnets through APIs, manage sharing through policy, and automate with the same APIs that power our console. See what’s new and what you can build → tailscale.com/blog/easier-...

Forgot that building Rust apps allows you to make coffee. I’m bouncing of the walls right now

I know you’ve heard my talking about my Appview a lot since April, but I really want to get this one finished. So I’m going to blog my progress, starting with where I am at the moment… indexing the data.

What happened to developer mode on the Bluesky app? Used to be able to copy dids and at uris directly 🤔

Fuckin hell. xrpc/app.bsky.actor.getProfile is a beast of information. Ain’t no way I’m implementing all that 😂

I can finally talk about this, 3 years later... github.com/tailscale/ta... It's a library + CLI tool that's like netcat, but over Tailscale's data plane without any control plane (no accounts, no dependence on Tailscale the company, all open source) WireGuard + NAT traversal without IP addresses.

Should I be able to log into the Bluesky app using my spaces account? Because I can’t. It tells me account not found 😔
